Tuner losing frequency setting intermittently

Tuner losing frequency setting intermittently - 12/01/2004 05:18

Haven't seen this one posted before, but for about the last week I have noticed an occasional problem when using the radio.

As Chris Moyles now hosts the Radio 1 breakfast show I have taken to using the radio in the mornings. Tuned to 99.5.

Every now and then, whether I have TA or AF enabled or disabled, the radio will set itself to 99.0, for no obvious reason, and this leads to very poor reception so I have to manually retune back to 99.5 or reselect bank A1.

Is this a known bug? Or is it just me?

Sounds like a Moylesian spam filter

Radio 1 have made complete frog soup out of me over the breakfast show. Simon Mayo and the Mystery Years was brilliant, Zoe Ball listenable, Sara Cox borderline unlistenable until that Big Ones thing which was good, but now the prospect of having to listen to a beached Moyles every morning has made this frog jump the pan. I tried Wogan for a bit but he keeps invited random clerics on to piffle about stuff. The music's usually OK though. I refuse to listen to the Today programme as their phone-ins are just the thinking man's playground scrap: "Now Archbishop, we've got Professor Dawkins on the other line and he says your mum looks like Thora Hird and you live in a council house. Are you going to just stand there? Fight! Fight! Fight!".

Most days now I just sit in glum silence, wondering why talents like Spoony or Colin and Edith aren't being pressed into service. Or why they can't just wire an Empeg up to their transmitters, play the frickin' records already, and sack the lot of 'em.

Sorry Rory... I should have waited a while, I've probably completely scuppered your chances of getting a helpful reply to your question...

...but I just couldn't help myself, you know?

Terry Wogan on Radio 2.
OK - I've always wondered who Terry Wogan is. Or at least since I heard the Madness short bit, the Terry Wogan Jingle: "Terry Wogan is a blankety-blankety-blank (repeats several times)"

Who is he? (Or what's the joke I'm missing?)

thanks,

You may listen to Terry Wogan to your hearts content here he's a very popular presenter/personality of Irish descent.

N.B. I've known the Moyles family, parents and both sons, for over 20 years, but I don't listen to it either.

One of Terry Wogan's best-known TV roles was as presenter of the game-show "Blankety-Blank", where contestants won prizes by filling in the blanks in well-known phrases.

Peter, I couldn't agree with your views about radio 2 more, unfortunately Mrs.B lives on a diet of Wogan, Bruce that follows him, Ross on saturdays and sunday love songs. It drives me mad when we're driving round in the motorhome and I know what's loaded on the Empeg!
I've discovered BBC6/7 in recent weeks, since Currys/Dixons put the Grundig DAB set out at £80.00. Oneword would be good, but the Beeb trounce it for the variety and quality of material. World was good, but it's just become a rolling news service, these days. People keep telling me that I would enjoy Virgin in the morning, but I haven't tried it.
All in all, I listen to the Empeg the whole time, time shifting my favourite radio programmes from the evenings.

Actually, of course, that's what I ought to do if I were organised properly. John Peel, probably, or Mark and Lard.

Oh yeah, erm, the bug, erm, sounds like an RDS-related problem to me. Could be quite hard to track down.

Re: Tuner losing frequency setting intermittently - 13/01/2004 10:34

I've just moved from the unreliable DAB Wavefinder to digi-TV to do this, it makes it very simple to leave it set, week in - week out, and of-course it gives you digitalT - TV as well. It also names the programmes and, next year, will tag them.

Oops, the bug, maybe we should be in off-topic, by now!

That explains a lot!

Thanks!

He runs a bit early (or perhaps a bit late) for me, I think. Maybe I'll try to catch him sometime when I'm way too late.

thanks!

It's amazing the off-topic chat you come back to after not reading a thread for a couple of days

After extensive (ahem) testing I have come to the following conclusions:

It only happens on radio 1, and only during Chris Moyles chat, so Geoff - you may be right.

I didn't have the bug today - so I'm reckoning Peter may be right about it being an issue with the RDS transmission quality.

Chris is not any where near as good now as he was before (you know, in the dark years before I had an empeg)

Mark & Lard and Jo Whiley have the best music

Holidays > Work

I am soooo bored filling out my 6 monthly performance review documentation!!! Why, oh why do we have so many documents that it takes 2 days of wasted time just to say "Oh yeah, I'm good at my job, pay me more please?"
