Search won't play song

Search won't play song - 01/06/2001 18:18

I have no clue what happened, however this started about a week ago, and I have not been able to fix it. I go and search for a song, and get to the song, or artist I want to play, press OK on the remote or press the rotary in on the unit. The song pauses for a varying amount of time (.5 to 3 seconds) and then continues to play the exact same song. Trying to attempt to do this over and over fails, and it continues doing the same song. However, I am able to pull songs up by year and pin, just not by artist, title, genre, or source. I've had this issue before, and it seemed to solve itself, however it has not. I have rebuilt the player, installed the 1.02 consumer and dev kernel, and it still will not play anything that I select in a search. I wanna throw this out in the BBS before I e-mail Rio with the issue.

Thanks!

Probably you have it set to "APPEND" song to the END of the playlist. If you press the CD-Md CH button while in the search screens it will toggle from PLAY to APPEND mode.

It gets even better in 1.1.

Instead of just "Search" and "Append", you will also get the option of "Insert".

Meaning that instead of instantly playing the selection, or appending the it to the end of the playlist, you also get the option to insert it right after the current song. So if you're in the middle of a specific playlist that you don't want to dump, but you want to play one specific song next, then you can do that without disturbing the rest of the playlist.

That's the option I've always been searching for!

I hope that the UI will have a pop up telling me if I'm on Appens, Search, or Insert. That would really help the situation :)

I can't believe I have a 1200$ toy and don't even know how to use it to its full potential. I feel great ^_^;;

Ahem. I has, even now (sort of)...

Play something. Press Direct/OK, say, three times. The first line reads 'XXX by title', XXX being 'Search' or 'Append'. Press CD-MD CH and observe XXX changing. (OK, it does not appear when PIN and year direct input box is onscreen.)

Cheers!

Re: Search won't play song - 05/06/2001 19:33

those who saw the 1.1 demo recently (and made the rest of us insanely jelous!) can you clarify something? Is there any way while doing an append|search|insert to burrow down into the playlist/set of tracks you've just selected?
Often I'll want to add just one track from a playlist and not remember its exact name. Currently I have to go to the playlist, find the track then go back to append by track and add it. Quite a lot of work while driving .

Being able to select a specific track within a search function would be quite usefull. No?

This is a much-requested feature, I agree. But I do not know if it will exist in 1.1 or not. It wasn't in the version that was seen at the Woodside meet (which is the same version I'm alpha-testing). Based on that information, I think it's unlikely that it'll make 1.1.
