serial cable connection - 17/10/2001 17:32

ok, this been trying to diagnose this for a while and maybe one of you can help me out. for some reason my computer cant talk to the empeg on the serial cable. Not with the upgrader, not with tony's logo upgrader, not with hyperterminal. First I tried playing with my computers settings, didn't work, so I tried on a different computer-- same thing. So it seems like it could be the cable. I lost the one empeg sent me, so I bought what i think is a normal 9 pin serial cable (back of box says its wired straight through, pin to pin) but maybe its not. Should I go buy another serial cable? Use another computer?

Thanks for your help,

John

You need a "null modem" cable to talk to the empeg from a computer. It swaps a few pins to map send to recieve, etc... You can use your existing cable, and add a null modem connector, or get a null modem cable.

Look for cables designed to connect two computers.

EDIT: sorry, just found one ( http://vbmhome.cjb.net/ )
