Powered Antenna Bug in 2.0b3

Powered Antenna Bug in 2.0b3 - 05/11/2001 00:20

I don't know if this bug have been reported before. I think not.

To reproduce: Listen to a radio station in the car, the anntena is up. Now turn off the ignition. Turn on the ignition again, the player is starting up and is in tuner mode as expected. But the anntena isn't going up!
In this case you have to go into standby mode and start again to activate the anntena.

Good catch.

This might explain some other problems people have been having with tuner reception, since the wire that powers your antenna up/down is the same one that powers other people's antenna amplifiers.

I have noticed the same. Thought it was my antenna's problems. Some of the same happens if the player is
pulled out of she sled when running.

That would explain some problems I have with the tuner reception quality (I have a BMW with build-in diversity antenna which used to very good with my old head unit).
Sometimes when switching on in tuner mode or when changing to tuner mode, the reception quality is quite low.
I then change to AM and back to FM which improves quality significantly (audible and visible on the display).
Maybe I should mention that I have hooked up an additional TMC-Receiver to the antenna. I'm not sure wether this could influence the antennas operation, therefore I never reported this behaviour. After the "little push" the reception quality is always very good, so I don't bother too much.
Now that I think about it. When first installing the tuner module, I forgot to connect the antenna amplifier. That got me a low reception quality quite comparable to the one described above. So it could very well be that the antenna amplifier just isn't powered sometimes. I'll try to pay more attention to the circumstances in which this happens.

Re: NOT solved in 2.0b7 - 29/12/2001 03:01

The problem still exists in b7.
Seems that the powered antenna signal doesn't come up if the player starts in tuner mode.

Part from the release notes:
>Fixed: Tuner/boot/stop mode switching issues. (#1386)
Seems not (completly) fixed

Ahh! This could explain my other thread on this.

Anyway, to the development team: If there's anything I can do "in the field" to help you nail this one, please consider me volunteered!

Hi

I would just like to confirm that the Powered Antenna Bug is definitely NOT solved in this beta7 release. Behaviour still as described before:
When powering up the player in car in tuner mode(FM), the antenna doesn't get powered. Dirty solution: Change to AM and back to FM. This powers the antenna and improves reception considerably. This behaviour can be reproduced anytime.

The software seems to "forget" to power the antenna when started in tuner mode.

The internal bug list has this one marked as "fixed" for an internal build after 2.0b7. So if it's still broken in the next beta, make sure to bring it up again.
