Less tolerance for multi-tasking.. - 25/11/2001 09:05

I was ripping a CD, surfing the web and uploading via USB and 2.03Beta and I kept getting warning during the "uploading tunes" step... "timed out on tune xxx".

When the sync was done, 1/2 of the tunes from each album was not uploaded. I ended all other tasks on the computer and re-sync'd, and all went fine.

I am not sure if the multi-tasking was related, but it is the only thing I could come up with.

When "ripping," were you actually doing just the audio extraction or were you also doing the encoding? MP3 encoding can take a very big portion of your CPU time.

I leave my computer well alone during ripping or I get a high count of 'possible errors'. I have a p!!! 800 and it takes a bit of cpu time to rip and encode. I certainly wouldnt be doing the number of things you are during either a rip or an upload.

I use MusicMatch which does the ripping and encoding in one step. I usually do leave the machine alone, but I never noticed any errors like this with 1.03,and it seems that 2.03beta is having a lot of problems that are USB related. I was wondering if somehow there was a connection.

My notebook is just a PIII 700 w. 128MB SDRAM.
