Display Freeze during Synchronize (2.0b7)

Display Freeze during Synchronize (2.0b7) - 06/01/2002 20:27

Note sure if its a bug or not, but I sometimes note that the display (with the "synchronising" animation) freezes - and, coincidentally, the buttons stop working so I can't turn the display on/off anymore. However, the synchronize operation does continue. Sometimes the animation and buttons will kick in again, sometimes they won't. If they don't by the time the synch is completed, the player does not reboot and emplode naturally alerts me to that. Otherwise, I can reboot manually and all is well. So nothing dire, but just wanted to mention it.

My friend Tod reported this one to me. Against my specific recommendation(), he uploaded his entire MP3 collection to the player in one huge shot. Via USB, no less. When he reported that the synchronizing animation froze, I was worried the upload had stalled. But he said that the song titles kept changing on the PC screen, so I knew it was still OK.

Good news is that the upload did in fact complete without errors.

Empeg guys, is this normal?

Ugh. One big upload! Noooo. I've been going in 2GB chunks for quite some time (via ethernet) and it's been perfectly fine several times over. Until just now!

The song titles weren't changing. The drive had finally spun down. The display had frozen. Most recently it had been that way for about 45 minutes before I finally posted the msg and then another one elsewhere - and now I appear to be in real hot water, trying to figure out how to get the player working again (for synchs anyway). Did a ^T on boot and the tests worked fine, but the player now shows "synchronise" when I use emplode to connect. The emplode log doesn't show anything that I'd consider a clue. So I'm stumped.

Oh, and if it helps any, seq_num=59 under [synchronise] in config.ini at the moment.

Just checked the Developer section of riocar.org - nope, I don't think this matters (or it does, but I'm not about to change it!).

Ahh. Methinks we have issues fsck can best handle. Lessee if I can get it fixed up. (Did this before a while back but for different reasons.)

Yay! I'm not even going to bother posting the fsck results - rather hideous if I may say so, but all fixable. Now I connect and I still get the sync but this time it rebuilt the database and all is well now. Removing those newly-added tracks regardless and adding 'em back in smaller bunches this time.

Just had this happen under 2.0b11 with emplode. I was uploading about 120 megs of new mp3's. The sync completed, but 50% through the "synchonising" animation froze.

Generally, it's nothing to worry about if the animation freezes. If the transfer stops, then that's an issue.

The animation freezing is on the bug list, but it's low priority.

Say, Roger.. I know this got discussed some before, but what if this were related to the "player lockups" that people are reporting: same bug, different symptoms.

Just a thought.
