Ok, so I'm a touch confused. If I want to have Jon, Rob or Mark build my tuner, how do I go about doing that? Is there a page somewhere that tells you what each person intends to charge (assuming it varies)? Is there anyone in the USA who might be willing to do this? I'm just wondering if having shipped to Canada or the Netherlands first will mean having to pay customs. Sorry for all the questions, but I want to order one of these and I don't know at the moment what shipping address to put in.

Also, obviously at this point, I'm not gonna be one of the first 50 people, so I'm wondering if there is an estimated ship date for the next batch.

macroolz of Eutronix is building the tuners as well. He's in the USA. The info for his services is here.

I don't want to put a damper on anyone's garage business for assembling tuners, but I just wanted to say that the kit is not that difficult to assemble. It's just time-consuming. My review of the assembly procedure is here.

I think the idea is that Patrick has provided three localised volunteers to build in certain areas of the world: the UK, Europe, and the US. Jon is UK, I (Rob Schofield) am in Europe, and Mark Lord is in the US.

If you choose to build it yourself, Patrick will mail it to you. End of story. If you want someone to build it for you, you click on your "local" constructor and Patrick will mail it directly to the builder. You then have the additional construction costs to pay, plus the postage from the builder. The idea is to choose a local builder in order to minimise your postage costs from the builder. So, if you are in the US, you would not (for example) want to choose me or Jon due to customs issues, and the cost of postage from Europe to the US. However, if you are in Belgium (for example) you would choose me (or Jon if he was cheaper ) and the postal costs are lower, less hassle overall.

Our Lord is in Canada, actually.

Thanks for the plug Meatballman and Rob! I believe we are the only U.S. assembler of the tuners. What are others charging for the service? Please see our services section of our website for our price.

Well, that information is certainly missing on the PCATS tuner homepage. I am not mentioned on the above page, but I will happily provide assembly service, charging 40$ plus shipping. Note that I won't be able to assemble much more than 2-3 tuners a week, so contact me at [email protected] (*) before asking Patrick to send your kit to me. You might also want to know exact shipping cost beforehand, I am located in Germany.

(*) Damn, why does the UBBThreads [url] implementation insist on putting "http://" in front os a "mailto:" link? I want HTML back in posts! On the other hand, it automatically turns my email address to a mailto: link. What the heck?

Well, admittedly, we haven't built one of these kits, so not knowing exactly how long it's going to take limits what we are willing to offer. Once we build one the price may go down. We have one one the way, so stay tuned.

No, I was just saying that Mark's was a bit more expensive than that, but mine is already on the way to him as well (I imagine). It's all good though, I just want the tuner, no reason to haggle!
