I really apologise for this but I'm still having no joy. I now have a proper Cat 5 crossover cable. I've tried using winipcfg which shows that my PC IP is set as 192.168.0.1 and the subnet mask is at 255.255.255.0 but the empeg is refusing to accept the IP that I set for it (192.168.0.2). My question is still this, though: should the empeg show the assigned IP whether it is connected or not?

I think I'm gonna have to try the consumer v1.03 and see whether that helps.
