Puttering around internationally with my T-Mobile "free roaming" (also at those throttled 2G speeds), I'm impressed. Things like email, Maps and Navigation are entirely usable. Sure, surfing the web kinda sucks, but it does the job.

T-Mobile will spam you with SMS messages while you're roaming to say "gosh, you know, you can pay us some money and make it go faster." I suspect they do the same thing if you're domestic and you run over your pre-paid 4G quota.

Needless to say, I'll take those spammy SMS messages any day rather than nasty overage charges.
