if it doesn't find one, it sets some kind of a flag so that it boots quicker NEXT time.

It's supposed to do an exhaustive check every time when at home -- you're unlikely to add a disk and then put it in the car, right? Then it should save this value to flash, allowing the car boot to go quicker on a single disk.

However, I don't think that Hugo's actually implemented it yet.
