Depending on the distances you are running, and your tolerance for repetition, a budget solution might be to pick up a used 64MB Creative Nomad II on eBay then upgrade it if needed. There's a firmware upgrade that adds support for 128MB Smartmedia cards.

I have one I was thinking of selling on eBay, but am now thinking of keeping/upgrading (my digital camera uses Smartmedia as well).
