Oh, Boris!

Dang.

[edit:(from CNN) " in Las Vegas Thursday at age 57, just one day before the group was set to begin a North American tour in the city, the Clark County Coroner said."

Nothing yet from coroner on cause. Too bad. 57. Yes, visit Vegas at your own risk]

And here's a piece from BBC news.

A bit OT but reminds me of ... Pete Townshend bought a property on the river Thames about 50yds from where I was being brought up as a child, man, the anti-drug lectures my mum used to give me as a result .... man, they were heavy man

Yeah, but the resulting band name would suck...

The Whootles?

The Bea-who?

Nah, doesn't work.

You, of course, mean ``Baba O'Riley''.

Hehe, I wondered as well. Hey, when I first heard it I thought that was what it was called too. And I found dozens of results on Napster at the time to support my thinking (don't worry, I own the album, largely because of downloading it).

I know for many people, the only familiarity they have with the Who is through that Pathfinder commercials. I bet there's also people who now only know Led Zeppelin via Chrysler. We call them "N'Sync fans".

yes, but when i usually say that people respond with "wuh?", then i have to say the teenage wasteland song. then they respond "ooh! I like that song", so i thought I'd cut to the chase.

I understand, in principle, but we've probably got a higher than average music knowledge quotient here, don't you think?

What a great opportunity for a little education!

Apparently, the tour is to go on. I'm never quite sure how to feel about the "John would have wanted us to...." and "it will be a tribute to John..." aspects of that sort of thing. No matter how I slice it, that always feels just a bit unseemly. Maybe if I had bought tickets, I'd feel differently, but my last ticket to see those boys was in 1975...

Pete Townshend bought a property...

That's almost my claim to fame -- assuming you're talking about his house on Richmond Hill -- I was walking across his driveway a couple of years ago, back when I lived in Richmond, and the man himself almost ran me over -- most likely my fault -- I'd had a few beers in a nearby pub, and wasn't really paying attention.

One of the acts at Glastonbury Festival, which most of Empeg have just got back from, dedicated their set to John Entwistle -- although this would be a better anecdote if I could remember which band it was...

Apparently, he died from what amounts to a cocaine overdose.

Sigh.

I saw The Who last night. Robert Plant opened.
What an amazing show.
