Another upgrade, and I'm once again wondering why doing a kernel upgrade through serial makes my empeg emit a high pitched whine? Both my players do it, but I just can't think of an explanation for it, especially because I never hear it when I upgrade hijack through ethernet.

Anyone know?

Matthew

Maybe it's the UART? I don't know the noise you mean, but then, there are always enough noisier devices around...

I don't remember seeing them but I am fairly certain they are there. If so, it's probably the windings on a transformer or a choke. Probably when upgrading the kernel, the empeg chews a little more power than normal.

I wouldn't have thought that programming the flash would increase the current consumption that much though. Re-reading you say it's a UART based thing. In that case it's possibly the UART level converters drawing a little more power.

I noticed that too, the noise seems to appear in time with the moving progress bar on the screen whilst programming. The noise has a very short duration, and it seems to do it about once a second during the programming process.
