Yeah, me or Dionysus would post it in the FAQ if such a write-up existed. Although I'm a network administrator by trade, I only own a Mk1, so the empeg end of the ethernet stuff isn't part of my expertise.

a how-to is something i've been asking for for some time now:( I've gotten the debian packages/ftp to work, but I'm pretty sure there's a better way to do it then how I'm doing it..

Wow, you dug up an old thread, didn't you?

In recent months, the Hijack kernel has added features which, if I recall correctly, will allow you to password protect the ethernet access to the player. I think (I'm not certain) that it even has the ability to block the ports which Emplode uses to communicate with the player.
