does anyone else have this problem. it seems to be more and more rampant. is it just because i have a chinese/japanese font installed and its reading letter combinations as other characters or what?

You have the wrong character coding set in your browser. Set it to Latin or one of the ISO sets.

Well, a different character coding from the one used to post that message. In the absence of a BBS-imposed character coding, it's a teensy bit judgmental IMO to describe anyone's guess as "wrong".

Who said I was ever known for my subtlety?

However, having said that, given the bullshit I had to go through on my last project to sort out character encoding issues, I agree with you 100%.
