I was compelled by aliens to reply to this.

1) take a look at IBM's current laptop hard drive range.
2) take a look at what empeg is offering.
3) confused? take a look at what Dell, Toshiba and other laptop manufacturers are offering.
4) now you know where they've gone.

Basically hard drive manufacturers have supply contracts with the major laptop manufacturers so they get the new drives first before they go retail or get offered to other smaller OEMs (like empeg.

So while it's nice to know it's not going to be offered any time soon, just to spoil your party. Sorry.

The 20GN and 30GT drives are scheduled to ship in volume in May to Compaq Computer Corporation, Dell Computer Corporation, Gateway, and the IBM Personal Systems Group. The 32GH will ship in limited quantities in June and in volume in August.

in reply for what it is worth. I understand how it works bro. just nice to know that in a few more months we can and they will be readily avalible.

Yup. Check out the FAQ.

For the empeg Mark 1, the drive must be no taller than 14 millimeters.
For the empeg Mark 2, the drive must be no taller than 19.5 millimeters.

It will fit fine. We haven't been able to get any in quantity as yet, though.

Just curious, rob. Once you start delivering from stock, how do you stock the various HD sizes? Do you basically go by the configuration numbers gained from the backorder list or do you have another way of figuring it out.

Just thought it would be interesting to know...

We've sold enough units to have accurate statistics by now.
