The stock 30 gig drive that came in my "new in box" spare seems to be crashed so I'm looking for a replacement. Anyone have an empeg stock 30 gig drive that they pulled from an upgrade? Or does anyone have a new one that they never used? Empeg support leftovers?

Thanks, I'll keep trying to see if the cable or headers are messed up.

I recently replaced 6 or 7 Fujitsu 30GB drives for Rob Schofield. It seems returning dead hard drives is a lot easier if you're in the US.

Every one of them had a good warranty (3 year) and were replaced promptly. Use this link to see if your drive is still able to be returned for replacement.

EDIT: I am assuming your drive is Fujitsu. I think all Mk2a 30GB models were equipped with Fujitsu drives. If it's IBM, those have the same warranty.

Rob, thanks for the info, as always.

I once read on the board (the first time I mentioned this problem) that the empeg drives were OEM and did not have a warranty from the manufacturer. That's why I hadn't bothered yet.

But now that my spare is open and I can get to the HDD serial number, I think I'll try it.

IBM Deskstar drives usually are not returnable to IBM if they are OEM. If your drive is a Fujitsu you will not have a problem. If it's an IBM (Travelstar) you shouldn't have a problem either.

Thanks again for the link. I got an RMA # last night! I'll keep trying to get it to work, but if not, I'll get a nice new (hopefully not factory refurb) 30. Thanks again.
