That would be cool

Either they have the aircraft type wrong or they've figured out how to get there in one hop. Maybe they run on one engine with a lot rudder to compensate! It's definitely one flight though:

Hmmm. Some googling...

Distance between Vancouver and Sydney is 9652 kilometers.

Typical range of A340-300 is 12415 km.

Here's the other direction of the same flight (AC33/AC34), which I recently rode to Oz:

That was an A340-300. It stopped in Honolulu for the USA customs run-around-the-tarmac foolishness while refueling, and then continued on to Sydney. The AC34 return flight did the same thing.

But they may have changed that now with the new schedule as of 14-Dec-2004. Funny thing is, I looked up AC33 on the current schedule, and it still departs at 1810 and arrives at 0730 -- should be 2 hours shorter than that when flying direct!

And I stand corrected: both types of aircraft used on this run can carry enough fuel to do the whole trip in one leg; they just haven't done it that way (until now?).
