or those of you that haven't heArd from me in a while ( the WAST
majority) ere's< THE 1 minute, Wham Bam Thank You maam, version:Took a
spill on an exersice(rowing) machine
knocked el ole noggin' sligthly against the (gypsum) wall, really
not very hard at all but combined w/ suspected tho
untreated/undidagnosed high BP caused a bleeding in the head-->
partial left side paralysis...
currently recovering in a stroke recovery unit,making slow but steady progress
Once the BP been dialled in with medics I'm probably scheduled for a
more worktraining oriented place for a while, relearning stuff like
walking, typing (currently doing s fair Djungle George) impression
here with my work laptop... Wired thanks to an UMTS Card:THank you
Hans (Boss)for providing, and Daniel n Anders (colleaugues)
(was a lot worse a< few days ago, loke not even being able to see the
full keyboard)
am trying to spordically monitor my gmail.com address.. (tempsch AT
gmail DOT com)
For those of ya that have outstanding business (like fan controller
PCB -- I'm still here, not slurping pond scumand intendingtp keep it
that way... Just rather drastically and unexpectedly slowewd down, so
I'm asking for a bit of patienc feel free to mail addy above - the BBS
is a bit overwhelming currently...)h

Very much my reaction, also. It has actually taken a couple of days to sink in. I mean, I was drinking beer with this guy not so long ago, commenting on the new, slim Mike while we admired the install on the Peugeot (the winner this year at Amersfoort, again ). How could someone so obviously healthy have something like this happen?  We are but toys for the Gods. Mike, make sure you get better soon. I'm supposed to be doing your Mk 1, remember?

It's too easy to forget how fragile life can be.
I'm really sorry to hear about this, Mike, but I'm glad to hear that you're alive and apparently in good spirits, and I hope you have a full and quick recovery.
It's also very heartening to hear your boss and your coworkers are helping out. I feel certain that I would not be so lucky here in the States.

Anyway, goal for this, spring is some auto-x'ing with the pug, so the lrft jhand better start to perform so it can steer while the right one occassionally assists with th handbrake Abyone with ideas on tires? Brands?Differentt front/rear? Stock size on an RC is 205/40 -17" 7, remember it'sFW-drive! n

I've been on blood pressure medication for over 20 years now so I know how important it is. Chances are if you are put on medication for it, you are on it for life and do not forget to take it or ever take yourself off of it. I have a kit to test my pressure at home and you learn to know the signs if your pressure is too high or drops too low. When first going on medication, it can be a bit trying until you find one that works for you without making you feel like you're dragging. If you continue to work out after all of this, just be careful of overheating and learn ways to cool yourself down quickly if need be.

Good to see you're making progress, I went to the doctors yesterday (for something unrelated) and I got her to check my blood pressure and it appears to be normal.
My mum has slightly high BP and I sometimes worry about her as my grandmother died of a stroke caused by high blood pressure. It can be a real silent killer, I'm pretty sure it contributed to John Peels death.

Yeah maybe, I read an interview with Andy Kershaw who was convinced he was in quite ill health before he went on holiday. He had high blood pressure and he was diabetic. He was also run down and highly stressed.
With Peru being high altitude, it probably won't do much good, plus a long haul flight for a man with bad circulation. Radio One were pushing him further into the night and at their last meeting he said to Andy: "I can't go on much longer, it's killing me"

First of all, for someone in hospital -- I'm feeling rediculously well . The docs have brought the BP down to a reasonable level arounde 120-130 over 80 (mmHg (?) and the workout regimen is firming up: walking along a handrail,forwars and backwards. "kneedipssp?",getting up on the toes, just standing balancing with minor disturbances (pushes/pressure) applied.... and the vision is trained by reading (started on Kosmos by Stephen Hawking) as the periphheral vision (to the left) isn't quite up to par (so right now, no driving :P Time for some anaconda time  (hefty breakfast justt finished) Me - worry? Noope...

Current BP is around 120 over 80 and I'm probably switching to a more rehab oriented place in the coming week (here is mainly acute treatment and trying to figure out why (so I've been photographed pretty much inside out) with frequencies from ultrasound to xrays
Eye sight I can feel improve daily though Istll get the occasional double vision, like 2< SÄubmit buttons on the screen... But now the main thing is to get the left side goin again.
Arm and leg are already showing progress, but hand/fingers/foot are pretty much still out on lunch

Definitly glad to see you recovering well. Hopefully it will be your last hospital visit for a long while. Having also recently visited an emergency room, I do know they are not fun. Especially when the staff is having a hard time looking for things while you sit there bleeding, and becoming lightheaded from blood loss.
Not a week I ever want to repeat again.

Thi is the first time admitted since birth. Did a brief visit 2.5 years ago when I sprained my elbow after doing something stupid on a kickbike  Hurt like hell for a couple of days, but nothing really out of place. Just took a couple of xrays of the elbow (boy was that fun as the nurse positioned the arm. Was considering punching her out with a left hook, but 1) I don't hit women, 2) she was after all trying to help and 3) she had plenty of backup )

Left side is slowly coming back. Walked a fair bit in the corridor with the aid of a "rollling table"+ 5-6 steps comlpetely without support (apart from moral...)) Left arm is progressing ok, hand also. still lot easier to yighten than to open up - feels like I'm telling the<muscles do both at the same time while they should only open....

Woah, reading this thread from start to now was a rollercoaster!
Sounds like you've been through the wars, as my family would say! I hope you have a full recovery and it progresses with no hitches, and I wish you all the patience it's mine to give. I'd reckon that times like this are pretty trying, especially when you don't see all the improvement you want or your situation is keeping you from the things you want to do. Take it easy and have fun as you go and you'll find that sooner or later everything comes good.
And if a mix would cheer you up, I'll make one specially for you!

Long time no "official" update (didn't want to bore you with daily "small progress"), besides, I know that Tony would've been all over me for simply trying to inflate mt post coun;t) )
I can now walk decently without support - I'd say somewhat better than Boris Karloff in "Frankensteins monster" only the occasional blip in balance, psrticularly as I get tired, which is way too soon yet, keep me less than fully confident. Stairs are less of a problem as you tend to have a railing to help with balance. Leg/foot is powerful enough to manage the raising/lowering of the body weight
The arm is getting noticeably better, can controlled get the hand to chin, mouth, nose, as well as raise it overhead. Can use the hand for some gripping things, like the bottom of a 1/2 liter PET botle while the right hand unscrews the cap. What is the main remaining problem is strenght in and control of the fingers. As a group they work OK,but individually they're not too cooperative, so this is still typed with the right hand only.

They expect a full recovery, so strictly according to muscle control, I should be able to ply the violin - unfortunately I couldn't before, and my utter lack of musical talent is a severly limiting factor though

She lives in England, so just a short hop from you!
Besides Nathan Milstein, Vanessa Mae is the only other violinist that I can listen to for extended periods.

2004-12-21 With X-Mas approaching Fast I'm now walking shorter distances completely unaided, for somewhat longer stretches, or uneven ground I have a cane to assist balance / boost confidence. Only restricted to the wheelbarrowCC-hC-hC-hC-hC-hC-hchair around here when leaving (which means I need to take it there as well) the "selftraining" ie working alone with a specified set of exercises. Was out on leave this weekend - had 3 cars to get going (drained batteries), a TV/audio setup in the living room that my mom had done something to so there was picture but no audio...She used the smaller plain set in my room instead It might be a bad idea to hook up the computer and Xbox as well Got some good food as well - the food here at the rehab is ok but not exactly sensational... So on saturday it was hmecooked Austrian food and sunday was thai restaurant Mmmmmm Left arm/hand is getting better as well. When the keyboard is in the "proper" position (typing this righthandedly lying ion the bed with the laptop propped up on the belly and knees:) ) I'm beginning to take some keys and even some combinations like Ctrl-w, Ctrl-a flag-e, Flag-r ith the left hand. Starting to carefully/very considered using it for task like holding plates etc. Not really up to proper cutlery etiquette yet though... The times im in the wheelchair,I'm also starting to use the left arm for propulsion instead of using the legs, but it's still plenty weaker than the right, so it's 2 left for 1 right to keep a straight line.... Hehe... Thanks for the reminder - some (flatwater) kayaking might be good training/exercise for the arm come spring (not that an attractive form right now with hard gusty winds, around 35F and rain[ie typical winter weather in Gothenburg])

Not sure if this is a sign of improvement or that I'm certifiable:), but I Just ziptied a blue oldcathode tube to the underbody of my wheelchair(currently keep it if I decide to like go to the sales - yeah right - not that insane yet!!) along with a borrowed 4Ah gel battery - (I asked the lady that bolted on various other accessories last week [cane holder , wheel covers etc] if she had underbody neons available as well. but she just laughed and said, ""sorry,no") So I decided to do it as a gag - had 2 tubes left/still unmounted from "project geot" Now I just need a big aliminum wing )though the chair did come stock with wheelie bars! ) and some Type R stickers, preferably yellow Now - how to mount speakers, amp and empeg... Happy new year!

You need to let us know when the wheelie bars come off. Sounds like upper body strength/asymmetry is an issue right now, but we look forward to your first wheelie. It looks difficult, but after the obligatory two or three ass-over-teakettle backflips, wheelies in the traditional wheelchair are as easy as can be (evidence: even Jim can do it). Great party trick.

YUp - I've just started using the left arm along with the right for propulsion at all - used to initailly use right arm+leg then, both legs mainly w some right arm assist... THey're no-tools foldable/removable, so whenever I want (and there are no nurses (or mom) around ).Haven't been licensed for sidewalk climbing or stairs yet so officially they stay on and down...

OK, after/before next Amersfoort you have to drop in - we can go night kayaking through the Amsterdam Red Light District... Or stop by the pizza takeaway that has a service counter down by the canal side for boats as well...

I have the heavy-duty folding (as in good old canvas-and-wood) expedition Kleppers. One of them full NATO military spec , very stable but *heavy*, a bit like paddling an aircraft carrier . I have one 1-seater, one 2-seater and one 3-seater, so no need for you to bring anything!
And in case we feel lazy, I have both a sailing rig and a small electric outboard

True. From what I've heard, the situation in Stockholm is rather silly, with in some crossings a7/-11 on each of the 4 corners... but very few survive w/o bancrupcy longer than a 9-12 months, despite the owners putting in insane hours... while the franchise owner gets their money each month anyway. And totally killed off the "Pressbyrå" kiosks and independent small stores.
Gothenburg hasn't "evolved" quite that far - yet. nd I've found the McD salads to be quite OK! No Big Macs, fries etc since early april - been to McD once though: El Maco, carrots and Sprite light.:) But generally I used to prefer BK burgers but McD fries No fan of thick bottomed pizza - want it thin... Have cut back seriously on the pizza intake as as well, upped the thai intake though
In sddition to the 40 kg Ilost according to plan - had just stabilized at the target weight when this crap happened , I lLost another 10kg during the first 3 weeks in hospital - probably some muscle but also a fair bit of water due to the medication (diuretics ?). I've always held a fair bit of water - always had quite low impedance readings on the scale at the gym. visited th girls at the gym last Sunday - first time ever I've had a "normal" impedance reading according to them.
75.5 kg, 12.something% fat - is somewhat on the low side, for the first time in maaannyy years...
Might pick up some of it again over the holidays, but I'll try to keep most of any gain to be muscle

Actually I still happened on a decent number of Pressbyrån around Stockholm, but I was probably in the right places for it. I didn't see that many 7-Elevens, but there is one prominently just outside the subway by KTH which I pass multiple times on every trip.

gräslök apparently translates to chives (to eliminate doubt, latin name: Allium schoenoprasum Liliaceae) otherwise right on!
THe spices is a mainly pepper mix and you put it and the fries in the bag and give it a shake...

Noy having been in our beloved capital for many years, I went with the impression I got from one of the TV shows - shoulda learned by now not to do that  Probably overemphasized / generalized a small corner of reality to make it more sensational...

I can - easily. If you want swedish food you're kind of limited to either hotdogs or the more posh restaurants.... Though there is a decent set of lunch restaurants that serve more swedish style food,but for some reason they're usually not open at night/in the evening...

Definitely sounds like fun - but not something you want to do in Amsterdam. The water in the canals is something you prefer to keep outside...
