I'm thinking of changing my mail client because OE doesn't do everything I need, I want to be able to set up rules fot outgoing as well as incoming mail. Does anybody know of a good and hopefully free alternative?

Just tried Thunderbird, that doesn't seem to allow a rule that does that either, nice otherwise though.

I just wasn't looking in the right place, it does everything I want. Love it, just off to donate now.

I hate to ruin yor epwc-only thread, but where does Thunderbird configure outgoing rules?

I still wish it were possible in Thunderbird or Outlook to have a "keep on server" rule. I could do it in Outlook Express, so it still boggles my mind that I can't do it in any other far superior email clients. Every once and a while, I like to send an email to myself, using a particular username at my domain.com, and I used to be able to set it so that I could keep messages to that address on my server and free for me to continue to reference via webmail.

Does anyone know, in Outlook 2000, how to apply a rule that will mark a message as read? At work I get all these messages that I don't need to read, but want to sort into their own folder. I don't want to go in and mark the folder as read manually just to get rid of the notification icon. I want to leave that free for telling me if there's something I actually have to read.

Any ideas?

Thanks for interrupting

Right Click on Local Folders --> Properties

This brings up the Account Settings dialogue box go to Copies & Folder, click Place a Copy in and point it wherever you want.

TheBat has incoming and outgoing rules (and rules for anything you want really). It can also keep any mail you want to keep on the server (all mail or set by rules). Been using it for a few years now. They're at version 2.x but I never upgraded from 1.x (the messages on the beta mailing list always kept fme from taking the plunge)

I'm going to switch from TheBat to Thunderbird when I get some free time (for Windows and Mac OS).
