Hi everyone (and especially Paul Grezlak),

I just ordered two 80GB drives for my empeg. I got them from dell using a 20% off coupon I got by playing their stupid "Dellf" game.

Anyway, I remember somewhere a post about how to get the empeg working with the 80GB drives, but I can't find it. I realize the disks need to be built manually, and I have the web page with instructions for how to do that.

I am wondering if there is anything else to this. Does emplode work normally? ISTR there was a need for additional swap for something. Is this only for the builder (and thus not necessary when building manually), or does this also apply to normal operation and especially to rebuilding the database?

Anything else I need to consider?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Pretty much everything should work normally. I would recommend a manual build on the drives, just to make sure you use the latest options, but everything else is transparent. You will notice longer disk check times, though... Enjoy!

I used the normal builder and it worked fine, but you may want to take Paul's advice anyway to be safe.

Hi.

I'd like to point out one thing.

I have 80gb drive in my Mark 1. I run into problems with the builder software, since theres only 4mb of ram in mk1 (?). I couldn't use the builder, and got the instructions on how to built the drive manually. Plugged into a laptop and formatted / created the drive suitable for empeg.

On mk2(a) the builder should work fine, afaik...

Good point, I built my drives with a Mk2a with 16mb of RAM. Most people who have had problems have used a 12mb Mk2.
