Gonna have to go try this tonight after the kids go to bed - my tagged tracks certainly seem fine in the car, so I hope they are.....retagging 100 tracks may not be that much fun

Am I the only one who can no longer edit ID3 tags in WinAmp with that plugin?

So, to recap, switching to that mpg123 plugin is the solution to the timing problems?

Yes.

If so, any way the plugin could detect which one is selected and complain/warn if it's not the one we want?

I suggested this very thing to Patrick in Instant Messenger mere moments after confirming that the mpg123 pluging solved my problems.

I never tried, but the readme for mpg123 says:
"*** ID3 tag editor is not fully tested. Backup your file before using this function. ***"

So I suppose that would be expected behavior.

Well, it's easy enough to switch back to the regular plugin (just put "MP3" back into the configuration screen for in_mp3.dll).

I usually use MP3 Tag Studio anyway, but occasionally I see a problem and correct it on the fly in winamp. I'd rather have correct lyric timing though, and it's a pain to switch back and forth, so I'll just use MP3TS.

If you're using XP, it's got a basic tag editor that's slightly better than winamp for those occasional problems... It works for me in those cases when I don't feel like fireing up mp3ts.

DOH! little did I realize, that's why the properties box was popping up when I tried to edit the ID3 tag. It was pulling up the WinXP tag editor.

/me goes back to hide in his hole.

On a quick bit of checking, some of mine appear to be fine, and a couple not so good so I'll go through and retime where necessary. I was going to do a quick spelling review anyway so ... sigh

Just as a reminder... Even when Winamp was using the original in_mp3.dll instead of mpg123, if you corrected the ID3v2 tag in Winamp, it will erase your SYLT lyrics from the tag.

I don't recall if MP3 Tag Studio preserves the SYLT tag by default, or if you must check a configuration option in order for it to do that. And I have no clue if using the tag editor built into Windows XP will harm the SYLT tag or not.

Happy Birthday!

I was happy to stick with Winamp 2.74 until .... it seemed to work alright on the first night, the timing MP3s were perfect and I tagged a file which worked fine on the empeg. Tried to tag another file a couple of nights later and got the lag problem.

I have now downloaded 5.08 lite and changed to the mpg123 plug-in. It works like a treat.

Thanks to all who came up with (and refined) the solution.
