I've been messing about with the database files (not important why right now) and now when I try to reboot the empeg the player app continually restarts.

The trouble is that I cannot now do anything with the empeg. I have Hyperterminal connected and can see all the serial output, but I cannot stop the player from re-loading. Pressing q simply doesn't do anything. The keypress IS recognised as it appears on screen, but it doesn't stop the player.

CNTRL-T performs the RAM test OK.

I just need to stop the player so I can access the files and fix the problem. Isn't there someway to boot the empeg but NOT start the player app?

Failing that I can only think I have to re-flash the OEM Developer image and then re-install Hijack (sigh). Surely there's a better way?

OK, I've figured how to use CTRL-C to halt the player on bootup (did try it bofore, but didn't seem to work). But I deleted the databases and the player still crashes with a 'segmentation fault'. I suspect this is my fault as I re-booted the player while still in rw mode - my fault, too much late night scripting.

So, I'll re-flash with a new image, but while I have seen mention of a 2.01 final, I can only find 2.00. From where can I download 2.01?

2.01 is only useful if you have added extra memory to the Empeg, but you will find it here: http://www.empeg.com/v3alpha/

There is a command to get the player to restart an empty playlist here, and there is a command to manually fix the databases here.

One of those or perhaps a combination of both will get you back into a bootable state with the player. Please note that you might also have messed up your filesystem, too.

It's happened again. Something has got screwed up and it won't reboot cleanly.

Once I'd unmounted the second drive and fsck'd / and /drive0 it is now happy again and the player starts ok, but I cannot fsck /dev/hdc4. I just get the following error:-

no room for private writable mapping
error: -12
fsck.ext2: Memory allocation failed while retrying to read bitmaps for /dev/hdc

Any suggestions as to what has happened here and how to correct it?

Is there a binary available to enable me to format a single specified drive, so I don't have to start from scratch again or delve into the hardware in order to disconnect a drive each time?

Did you enable swap?

Yes. Does that indicate a possible fix?

Is mke2fs on there already? Damn, how did I miss that. Thanks Rog.

I have another problem, but I think it warrants a new topic.
