Just the floyd? Should be able to stick that on a CD/DVD. It'll take a while to upload otherwise.

Was hoping for more but I'll take what you can offer. I'm happy enough to get any chance seeing as I spaced yesterday. Well, that and biked 25 miles and went to a picnic.

Yes, in November I believe.

Looks like the Pink Floyd performances (and others) are available here:

Hmm, seems the Mythbox had a bit of a hard time. I appear to only have 2 20G files instead of the 5 or 6 4 or 5G files. It looks like it's stuck some stuff together, I'm not really surprised, asking it record several programs all with the same/similar names with overlapping times on multiple channels, something I've certainly never asked it do before.

I've located the Pink Floyd and The Who's performances, so I can make copies of those sections. Anything else is going to be a multiple DVD+/-R job.

Would that be a DVB-S recording?

The U2 performance is going to take 30 hours, which is better than the REM performance... that tracker isn't even up.

Andy has DVB-T, not DVB-S.

This blog entry pretty much sums up my opinion of the MTV coverage of Live 8:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/ericzorn/weblog/archives/2005/07/i_dont_want_my.html

What utter garbage. The miracle of BitTorrent is the only thing keeping me from burning down the MTV headquarters.

In regards to the Pink Floyd show, I was very impressed. It was great to see my favorite band back in the configuration they were last in long before they were my favorite band. Sadly, they've ruled out a future reunion, saying they're "too old." I dunno, maybe they are, but that hasn't stopped other way-past-their-prime acts from hitting the road. Sure, there's no guarantee that the shows would be as good as the Live8 performance, and it's not like they need the money... But it was really great to hear them all together again, and it'd be nice if they could do one more tour with the canonical lineup, even if they have to do it with wheelchairs and walkers.

If anyone's interested, I can bring a complete(*) recording on a
USB disk, 25 GB big. It's a raw uncut recording made on a
Hauppauge Nexus-S card, filtered through pvastrumento.

It's best played using a DVD player program.

Pim

(*) just a couple of seconds missing from the begin, and
a hiccup when the broadcast switched from BBC 2 to BBC 1.

I have plenty of space left on my usb disk, so please do (if the quality is resonably good and I can play it with a normal media player program)...

TBH, Pim's DVB-S stream will be of a slightly higher quality as the BBC satellite channels are statmuxed at a higher average rate than the DVB-T streams. I'll by all means bring my files with me as probably just bring my HD enclosure along for the trip.

I'm interested: I'll bring my laptop, which has plenty of space.

AOL also have free streaming of the London, Philly and Toronto gigs (complete with handy links direct to the individual Pink Floyd numbers):

http://music.channel.aol.com/live_8_concert/london_philly_toronto

It uses their own ActiveX based player, so not much hope of saving the stream or working on anything but Windows I guess ?

I didn't see Pink Floyd live on the day, they have still got it haven't they

In case anyone wants to know, these are the specs

video:

mpeg2 ps
resolution 720 x 576
aspect ratio 16:9
frame rate 25 fps
nominal bitrate 8 mbps
average bitrate +4 mbps

audio:

mpeg1, layer2
stereo 48 kHz
bitrate 256 kbps

I'm not sure for BBC channels, but I do know Dutch DVB-T streams
have a lower resolution as well as a lower bitrate than their DVB-S
counterparts.

I have my USB disk ready. It's NTFS formatted. The files will not fit on
FAT filesystems, including FAT32.

I'll have to bring a USB disk with me -- my laptop's at work, and I can't get to it, given the events in London today. Hopefully I can prevail on someone to do a disk-to-disk transfer for me?
