Technique:
Guitar or bass guitar played in a steady, stacatto style through an echo (either tape or analog or digital).
Result:
Rhythmic, somewhat syncopated beat, with the main guitar line producing some of the notes, while other notes in the beat are the echoes bouncing back in between the main notes.
Examples:
Pink Floyd, "Run Like Hell", U2, "Where the Streets Have No Name", and many other examples from the Gilmour and Edge catalogs, and many other guitarists after those guys.
QUESTION:
I know Gilmour far-predates Edge in this respect. I figure Edge got it from him. But where did Gilmour get it from? Is there prior art? I can't think of anything earlier than Gilmour.
