Just a heads up for some PocketPC users out there, StyleTap has released a product that emulates PalmOS on a PocketPC devices, including IR and IrDA. I wonder if this would work with Palantir? Anyone want to try it out?

I should be home in about an hour... I'll try it then. If only I had a power adapter here at work... perhaps it's time to rummage around.

Took me a bit longer to get to it than I thought it would, and unfortunately I couldn't get it to run. It tries to start up, and just goes back to the StyleTap launcher menu.

Hrm.. too bad. I don't think I'm doing anything non-standard with Palantir - it is really a basic Palm app. Thanks for trying, though!

Loaded StyleTap onto my iPAQ 2215 running windows mobile 2003, loaded the 0.98 version of palantir.prc and my database of tunes. Runs perfectly to the point where you want to beam the playlist to the empeg, then fails to find any device and times out.

Empeg setup is ok as I can still beam from my Palm VX.

Don't think there's any settings I can play with but if anyone wants to suggest something I'll happily give it a try.

A good way to test if your beaming is working from the device to the Empeg is to try to beam the playlist to a non-Empeg device (Palm, PocketPC, PC) that can recieve OBEX objects via IrDA. The beam should come over as an OBEX object file called palantir_insert.txt or such. That would verify that the PocketPC is actually beaming something over, and the problem might lie with the Empire setup on the Empeg.

Another way to check is to point a digital camera at the IrDA port of the PocketPC while beaming and see if there are any IR signals being sent by looking at the digicam's LCD.

Following your suggestions, I successfully beamed a playlist from my Pocket PC to my laptop, no problems (file attached).

So the Pocket PC is sending OK when it can find a recipient. But isn't able to set up the transaction with the empeg because it fails to find a device to receive.

Any ideas?

This means that the PocketPC Palantir install is working correctly! But, your Empire installation is not working correctly. Does your bootup log show that Empire is starting?

Ah.

That is different, then. I would investigate the IrDA layer further, it might be an issue with the (older) OBEX libraries that I have included with Empire. I don't think there is an easy fix for this one. If you can beam an OBEX object to your laptop via Palantir I think there is a deeper issue.

Sorry.

No problem Mark, it was all worth a try anyway, looks like StyleTap won't be getting my money. Just got to wait until decent colour screened Palms drop another level in price, until then I'll stick with the trusty old Palm Vx.

As a complete aside, have you abandoned the bluetooth implementation or is it still in the pipeline awaiting that ever scarce commodity - time?
