Stuck on a bad track

My player is stuck on a bad track and locks up a few seconds after starting up. It is the only track in the playlist so I can't just skip it. I can't get it to sync with emplode when it is frozen.
Any ideas other than the disk builder ?

Connect via serial, hit control^C, then either delete the track manually from the fids directory, or just do "player -i" and lose all of your settings (if any).
Some people have put "player -i" onto the Hijack Menu with a config.ini entry, to avoid the need for a serial connection here.

Related to this, what do y'all think about perhaps having Hijack just reset the current playlist (in memory, not disk!) to NULL whenever the player crashes ?

Thanks for the info. I can't get a connection over serial I am using a usb to serial adapter but it worked before.

Sounds like some good ideas, Mark. But how could you navigate to HiJack to abandon the playlist if the player was locked? Or, would you still be able to access HiJack (just like during the few other hangs I've seen)?
Clearing the playlist on freeze would be a nice no-brainer way too. Maybe a config.ini option to disable it for those who love slogging through long playlists no matter what.

Hijack is the kernel, and continues to work correctly even if the player software is totally hosed. Even if the player isn't booting at all. If you remove the hard disk, you can still get to hijack. Try it some time, it's fun. 
Odds are, if the player software crashes or locks due to a bad track, you can still get to hijack.
It's the equivalent of ctrl-alt-del in windows... most of the time, you can get to the task manager and kill the offending process. Sure, sometimes it doesn't work, but most of the time it does.

When this happens to my players...
I just boot and push the next track button relentlessly during boot up.
The player always skips to the next track before getting caught.
This has always worked for me... but your results may vary.

I think that a "Clear playlist" Hijack option would be very useful. And much more elegant than rebooting while frantically hitting the track forward button.

Can someone in the know post an explanation (or link to one) of how to add a player -i option via config.ini.? I haven't found anything on the BBS about how to do that.

It would be something similar to this (untested):
[hijack]
;@MENUEXEC Restart_Player killall -INT -w player; exec player -i &
Once you get it all figured out and working, perhaps you could post a follow-up here.

I ran in to the "stuck on a track" problem this morning. I used this and looks like things are back to normal now. The only thing that looks a little odd is it seems to take a long time to skip to the next track.
Thanks for this I will need to either add it to the Hijack or keep this stored away somewhere in the cobb webs.
