Guys, how could I forget to post this?!?
Now, I was and still am an old COmmodore64 fan. I am sure many of you are, too. So, what about making EMPEG capable to read the glorious .SID audio files?? Isn't it a great idea??

It is/has been done... Take a look at Kims post, here

It seems the link in the post is dead, but I'm sure Kim still has it stashed somewhere ...

That's Great!
Thank you!
However, it would be nice if SID support could be integrated in the 1.1 software release directly from the good empeg guys! Guys, do you think it is possible? Including MOD and MIDI support would be great too, don't you think? :))

One of my first wishes as well

A temporary workaround is to use a media player with .WAV writing, like Sonique or Winamp. Then encode the WAV to MP3. It does increase the size quite a bit of course, but it works for now.

This is interesting. Humm... I wonder if it would be possible to use SNES, and NES emulation sound files (sfc's and stuff) on the empeg.. hummm damn my lack of programming knowledge

I have to figure it out though if it is possible

There is also a SID2WAV converter. I used that, and of course converted WAV into MP3 too. You can find it in the SIDSTUFF section of www.c64.org . :)

Well, with careful mixing, one could reproduce the sound enviornment of an arcade many years ago

Got to "the unofficial developers site". Choose : developer - demo code. There's Kim's SID-player

It would be nice if there was native empeg player support for SID files, perhaps even SoundTracker and other Tracker style files.

Greetings!

I doubt I would ever dare to do that one. My thought was more to have it act as a server for a remote system. Even then, that would be in my "infinite spare time". This is not an active project at the moment... Still, I could see Tempest on it...
