I just placed my order for a Empeg Mk2a at the SonicBlue eStore!

Can't wait!

I also ordered 2 sets of face plates!

Goodbye NEO35!

hmm... incase they get scratched?

I live in Canada (not part of the USA. .hehe). So i'll probably get charged all sorts of duty. But I'm sure the unit will be worth it.

Congratulations! I bet you're going to be happy.

BTW, if in the course of roaming this board you stumble across a thread that wisecracks about the one Empeg that has been sold in Canada, pay no mind. It was just a joke related to one poor Empeg that TNT bounced between Halifax and Saskatoon a few times.

Hey, if anybody from Vancouver wants me to purchase by proxy, I could sneak your RioCar across at Blaine in *my* sled and deliver it for the price of brunch at the Tea House in Stanley Park. (Hmmm. What do I listen to on the way back?)

Anyhow, congrats!

Greetings!

Didn't that empeg bouncing around in Canada also get sent to Bosnia first, then was rerouted? Are you referring to ineedcolor's unit?

Bosnia? Maybe that's the one, but I thought that ineedcolor's was the Canadian one that wound up jacked into the PA at a bar in Alice Springs. Am I getting them mixed up?

Fastrack, don't you worry about a thing!

Greetings!

If I remember correctly, ineedcolor's empeg got shipped to Bosnia (where he was located at the time). After lots of trouble attempting to get it into the country, it was returned to the UK, where the folks @ empeg shipped it to an alternate address in Canada. Where it was promptly lost, bashed around and damaged by the shipper there.

What news? Any cryptic eStore e-mails? Any TNT GPS coordinates??

Actually, pgrzelak was not kidding about the Bosnia re-route (I don't think) and that became the legend of the Lost Canadian Empeg Patrol. I expect you know that I may have been imagining that whole thing about the Empeg in Alice Springs...

Yesterday I received an email asking to confirm the shipping address for Digital River. So I did. I now have a tracking #... And it made from San Jose to Toronto, Canada in about 12 hours. But this afternoon they phoned my house when I wasn't here and asked exactly what it was! It was written on the box "mp3 player screen" with a value of $750.. So my brother told FedEx he wasn't sure, so they said they would phone the company.

Maybe I'll get it tomorrow. Very weird!

I have to say, up until a few weeks ago, I thought the customs people were just being irritating about these things. Now I've got a completely different opinion...

Tracking number....12 hours. Very hot. Major optimism induction.

You mean to say you haven't subjected your brother to the mandatory Empeg Mind Meld?? Geez, what's the secret handshake for anyway???

I bet you get it tomorrow. Agree with Tony that it's nice somebody cares what's in the box.

Well my brother knows what I bought, but he didn't want to say the wrong thing. Because of duty and all. So he just figured let them phone the company.

We'll see. I'll report back tomorrow night, after I crack the box open.

That's if I get it of course.

When my player was shipped and landed in the country, I rang TNT and told them to hold that package for pickup, I didn't want to risk someone missing it when delivering.

Well after 2 days of use:

I am VERY impressed, this thing rocks compared the NEO35! I have it connected to my NAD system inside right now. The sound quality is amazing.

Finding the music is different compared to the neo, so it's going to take a while to get used to :) I had 26GB of mp3's on my neo, so I may have to upgrade the drive space.

Anyway a couple of questions.

1) When I power the unit off what is the point of the dimming light in the top right?

2) I tried version 2.0b3 of the software and it doesn't seem to work, it starts up and finds the Rio on 192.168.1.200 (I made it static through the Rio car software version 1.02a). But when I click OK or double click the icon it says "Operation Completed Successfully" and that's it, it does nothing else. Do I have to upgrade the firmware to get it to function?

3) I’m sure they’ll be many more questions

You chould be using the latest and the same version of software on the player and on your computer. 2.0b3 emplode wont work correctly (if at all) with 2.0b3 player and vice vera. make sure you have downloaded the same version of each, either 1.03 public or 2.0beta3, and install them appropriately.
1.03 is the most stable release. 2.0 is still a beta and you should read the release notes before installing it. If things go seriously wrong, the official line will be to revert to 1.03.

That said, 2.0b3 is quite stable. I haven't had any catastrophic failures yet.

Both of those questions are covered in the FAQ at Riocar.org. Check it out.

To answer them quickly:

1) Blinking light indicates standby mode as opposed to full-power-off mode.

2) When upgrading, do them in the following order: Emplode first, then player firmware immediately afterwards.
