I just got my 60 GB empeg, yeah! I love the player already, and I am learning more about it's capabilities everyday. Here are two things though that I need answered:

1) The bottom button on the empeg seems to not work. I saw a person post before about a "sticky" bottom button, but I do not know if this is the case, cause I can press it, just nothing happens. Isn't the bottom button equivalent to the "menu" button on the remote? If I couldn't access my menu by that, it would be a problem. What can I do about this?

2) When I hookup my player to my home stereo, is there a way to turn it off completely? By pressing the top button, it goes into standby mode, is that it? The only way I have been able to completely turn it off is to unplug the power adapter from the wall. Should it just be left in standby mode, or is unplugging the power adapter the way to go?

Congratulations on your new toy . Does the button 'click' like the others do? You might want to unscrew the 4 cap-heads that hold the fascia on and see if the actual switch works with no buttons attached. This should help you ascertain whether it's the switch or just a button issue.

As to your second question. When on AC power the lowest state it can be in is standby. You can't turn it off completely. This is normal behaviour.

yeah the button clicks like all the others, but not as definite a click if that makes any sense. I will try what you suggested.

So about the standy mode, when I want to take the empeg from home stereo to car, should I simply unplug it while it is in standby mode? That doens't do any harm to it?

Nope. Its built to lose power without warning. You can yank it out of your dash or pull the AC mains out while its playing no problem.

Yeah, as Fogduck says,it's designed to cope with suddenly losing power, that's fine. The worst it can do is that it it might lose where it is in the playlist.

Shouldn't is resume where you left off though? I thought the empeg when you powered on picked up playing the same song as when you turned it off?

Yes it will, 99.9% of the time. I have had a glitch from time to time where it didn't get the info saved, and instead reverted to the last powerup position. Not a huge deal, and hasn't happened to me more then 5-10 times, and thats with daily use since Early 2000 between 3 different units and many versions of the software.

I've never noticed anything but that response, yes. He *was* talking about worst case, either way...

FIXED! My bottom button seems to be pretty ok, it works now, still a little sticky and sometimes it does a double press when I do it, but I think it will be ok. Thanks for all the help. I don't have the proper screwdriver to loosen/tighten the fascia. I used a phillips and it nudged it a little, and seemed to help. Is there an actual hex size screwdriver head?

Yeah there is. Theres also the screw drivers that have the insertable heads and hex keys (allen wrenches). All available at your local hareware reseller ; ) Its a 2.5mm hex key by the way, just incase you do go out and buy one so you dont have to try out a bunch before you get the right size.
