Just an FYI, it looks like AOL has finally taken their first and second shots at Trillian. Yesterday, any user with SecureIM enabled for AIM couldn't sign on. Today, even with it disabled (or running the new 0.72 version) Trillian users still can't connect. Both problems happened at about midnight CST, so it looks like an update on the AIM servers is causing it.

I'll update this post if any workarounds get posted. Keep in mind 0.72 now can check for updates, so it's a worthwile upgrade. The main Trillian web page is really slow today, so here are a few sites to grab 0.72 from:
Site 1
Site 2
Site 3
Site 4

I just looked and I have been disconnected as well. Im running .71. I always thought trillian was below aol's radar. The trillian guys will come up with something fast, im sure.

Thanks for the links, I cant get the trillian site to come up at all. Must be tons of aol users looking for answers.

Sean

When will these people stop squabbling over IM's and play nice?

Can't anyone see the benefit of a standardized IM protocol?

But thanks for the Trillian info, I'll see if I can grab 72 tonight.

Hmmm. I think v0.721 still has some AIM problems. My buddies all disappear after some time, I reconect, and everyone's back on. The AIM icon stays lit up, but everyone disappears. I somehow doubt we're all logging off and on at the same time...

And Trillian's forums are currently down which means they're probably being slammed to death by other people noticing this... Maybe...

And there was much rejoicing...

(Until AIM messes it up again.)

This battle could go on forever. The same thing happened back when MSN Messenger allowed you to connect to AIM. I hate this crap.

Ugg, it's still going on, 0.724 and it's also dead already. AOL seems to be doing these updates at any time now, instead of the traditional midnight EST changes.

So to people on my AIM list like Loren, I'm not able to connect yet again. Oh well, it still works as a great alternative to ICQ (Until they start in on that protocal too, since AOL owns both...)

Hmm. I am on v.722 and I'm still connected. I think I'll just never reboot my PC and I'll be fine.. yeah... Glad I'm running Win2K.

The only way I got on with .722 was via some goofy trick explained on the Trillian forums where you join a random chat room as soon as you get connected. That somehow keeps you on. I don't know if that trick would work with .724 as well, but I'm not going to bother trying right now. I really don't want to run 2 chat clients, or have to run AIM's crappy client at all.

What a PITA this has been.

Patch is at:

http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/trillian-v0.724-aim-b.exe

It's small (337kB), and it appears to need v0.724 installed beforehand.

I heard AOL's actiions are interfering with licensed products like some mobile phones (Sprint PCS) that occationally get AOL IM errors.

Hey -- while Trillian is up again, has it been dropping messages for anyone here?

I've been using it for well over a month now, and I am sure that I have not had any way of noticing before, but increasingly it seems Trillian is dropping messages lately, on both MSN and ICQ networks.

Anyone?

That may be why aol has stopped messing with trillian for now.

Make sure you apply the aim c patch in big red letters on the main page. It resolves icq issues. Havent had any problems.

LOL I spoke too soon, today I was informed that I was disconnected due to using an unauthorized client and that I could load a real full featured client at aol.com.
