Hi all,

Please, please, please can I have your help? I've got this problem which has been bugging me for... Oooh... Ages.

Basically, every 30 seconds (and it is that exact), the PC stutters - if I'm dragging a window about the screen, it stops for about half a second and if I'm playing audio (with WinAmp, MSMP, RA or anything else), it stutters (repeats itself) a few times.

Now, I've slowly ripped everything out of the machine (both SCSI cards, modem, network, CD drives, floppy, swapped hard drive, swapped DDR RAM for SDRAM and reinstalled Windows 2000 pro.) and I've still got the problem.

The motherboard's an Asus A7A266 with an Athlon 1400 on it. The BIOS is at the latest patch level (1009). The only software to run at startup is "MS Active Sync 3.5" and "NAV2002".

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Nicholas.

I had that board for about a week and swiftly sold it on eBay due to overall flakyness. Did you install ALL the drivers for the chipset? Download the drivers for the M1535D+ southbridge of the chipset on that board. This is likely where you may be getting a problem from. ALi's site is linked below. The chipset on that board is the ALi Magik 1. Like I said... get the drivers for the M1535D+ chip, and then also the M1647 northbridge chip.

Yeah it sounds like southbridge driver problems to me too.

Have you looked in the forums at www.amdmb.com ? There's some great information there.

During this time, is your floppy drive being accessed?
If yes, it could also be a misconfigured virus scanner trying to scan the floppy.

Bugger.

I thought I had, but...

I just downloaded all the ALi drivers you mentioned and the problem's still there. The only components I haven't changed now are the sound card and the m/b.

Damn, damn and double damn.

Nicholas.

Nope and killing off all the s/w was the first thing I did!

Thanks anyway,

Nicholas.
