I searched for this but did not find it. I just upgraded to XP and Emplode does not find my player. Should I re-install the software? XP finds new hardware when I plug in the USB connector into the player.
edit: I'm running emplode 2.03

If you are using USB, XP will have problems finding your Empeg no matter what program software or hardware you are using. Some people have been lucky and it works, but for most pepole, the empeg shows up, but when you try to connect to it, it'll say, "there doesn't seem to be a player connected". I have had this problem and i just use ethernet now. Apparantly its a known bug and they are working to fix it.

I did find out that the ethernet connection will work. I use a cable modem which uses ethernet. Should I get a hub that will allow me to connect the rio and my modem together?

You should probably get some sort of firewall for your cable connection so that you're not exposed to all the script kiddies out there. And pretty much any broadband firewall you get these days will have a hub in it already (but make sure the one you choose does so that you don't call me a liar). It's very doubtful that a hub by itself would do the right thing, though.

SmoothWall is good firewall IMHO. It utilises your old low spec. PC with 2 NICs (or a modem & 1 NIC etc.) and turns it into a firewall appliance. It's a Linux based product available in various flavours according to your needs. The GPL version is available as a free bootable CD .ISO download and needs no Linux knowledge to install & configure.

Oh, you would still need to buy a hub btw.

Ok, that plug has eased my conscience a little

I use the LinkSys Wireless Router model BEFW11S4. I've never had a problem using emplode over ethernet on XP.

I've got a LinkSys EFAH05W 5 port 10/100 hub which works quite nicely with the empeg and Windows XP. USB is also very flakey for me under XP as well. Ethernet is faster anyway

I went to a Linksys 4 port hub (BEFSR41) for the very same reasons listed above...It works really well with my player and it added an extra firewall to my system to boot...

I picked up the belkin 4-port router at comp USA ($99 - $20 instant rebate - $30 mail in rebate = $49.99).
