Hi guys,

well I'm maybe one of the few users who bought the empeg not for the car but for home use. For me it is too risky to leave the empeg in the car in the area where I live and I find it too big too carry on with me wherever I go. Thinking of buying an ipod 10gb als carplayer and connecting it to the aux-in of my Blaupunkt Modena CD51.

Do I get a relative good sound quality doing this way?, anybody outthere doing the same?

Second problem I'm a windows user (or better said, I don't have a mac)...I found on the web a windows program to access the ipod (don't remember the name) any suggestions?

sorry, I now is a bit off-topic

Mario

"Empeg vs. Anything" is always a bad way to start a topic on this board

All I'm gonna say is that the iPod is excellent and I use EphPod for Windows.

I couldn't get EphPod to work, so I'm using XPlay.

IT's funny you mention doing this as I thought about it as well. Recently got a new car and not going to go threw the hassle of putting the empeg in the car right yet.

I've got a spare 10gigEmpeg I'd be willing to trade for a iPod either 5 or 10 doesn't matter as long as it has everything included.

nice to know, I'm not the only one who doesn't want to install the empeg in the car (at least not where I live now) and think the same way I do (it is a known that we feel better wenn other people do certain things as we do, it makes us feel to be part of something like...eh comunity? of people that as crazy as we do?) Do you see the same faces as I see when I tell them (the others....let's call them ignorants?) that I have a kind of "thing" with a Harddrive to hear tons of music in MP3 format?....well it was only a comment...

OK...http://www.ephpod.com/ that was it! thanks

2nd Problem, I have a notebook without USB and of course any firewire :-(

would it work if I buy a Firewire PC-Card adapter? anyone tried this?

Most laptop firewire cards are unpowered meaning they can't charge the iPod. You will also have to force the iPod into firewire mode as it cannot detect it is connected without a powered port.

Also, there are many issues with Windows XP and EphPod/MacOpener. If you are getting an iPod and must use XP, get a desktop and put a Western Digital firewire card in. This is pretty-much the only firewire card that works 100% in XP with EphPod/MacOpener.

I wish more of those padded canvas empeg bags were out there... I got a free one through a promotion and love it. I probably wouldn't like carrying my empeg around if it weren't for that bag.

Keep in mind that the iPod does come with a wall power adapter for charging.

thanks Rob,

well I only have a Toshiba CDT660 not many Horse Power but enough to run Window 98 SE, I still haven't use XP. Since Firewire is so fast, the problem with charging while plugged shouldn't be such a big issue. The main question is, does it work?, maybe the answer is...who knows...just try it...you know, no risk no fun ;-)

No idea about 98, but on my Dell XP Home machine it works great with XPlay (http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/preview.asp). I bought a $30 CompUSA Firewire card and had no problems with it. That is, after I upgraded the iPod firmware to level 1.1 (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/). Before that I would get "write behind" errors all the time--after the update I just slammed 5 gigs down to the unit at once without a hiccup.

The iPod's way cool--definitely the best user interface I've ever seen on one of these things (or for that matter on just about anything). I think it would be a great idea for someone to make a car head unit that you plugged the iPod into--using the iPod as a data cartridge. Once their capacity gets to 30 or 40 gigs then you'd be golden.
