Unfortunately for me, mine died 2 months after warranty, and I had to pay $150 for it. They warrant their repair for 90 days. Guess what, 3 months after that date, I'm hearing gronking noises and seeing blink code 9 again. So far no replies from their support.

Strange... Here in Europe Plextor gives 2 years of full warranty on their drives. Mine was 1.5 yrs old when it failed. No problems to get it replaced whatsoever.
I guess there is a big difference between Plextor Europe and Plextor America.

So I emailed them, and complained that this is the second failure, that has died a couple of months after warranty period... and I asked if they can fix it at their charge. They said NO, and want $115 for the repair, which is more than the cost of the drive brand new. How is that for service? Plextor customer service is bull. Their RMA *ignores* e-mails that does not come in with a special form filled out. If you fill it out incorrectly, they will ignore it. For example, one of the items on the form is a serial number you obtain on the back of the drive, essentially you have to dismantle the computer to get it out. What a pain in the butt! If you don't fill that number in, they ignore you.

Anyway, Plextor is BAD NEWS.

As noted in my other post, I purchased a Pioneer A04 DVD-Writer/CD-Writer Combo. Price when I bought it was about $290 and is a tiny bit cheaper now if you check pricewatch. Works great for copying PS2 DVD games and can copy movies to once ripped correctly to the hard drive.

I'm mostly just venting at Plextor's shoddy quality. Glad you didn't buy them.
