Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade the Mark I tuner?

Or alternatively is there anyway to interface an outboard tuner so that the audio & controlling would be handled by the Empeg itself.

Preferrably with AM stereo, FM w/RDS, the new Satellite, shortwave & weather bands.
I know I'm asking for allot.

hi.

I might be wrong, but if I understand the functions of the mkII tuner module correctly, it might be possible (if the guys at empeg played along) to connect a mkII tuner module to the docking sleds serial port and its audio output to the AUX-in of the empeg. You would probably loose the RDS functionality though, I guess (because the RDS decoder is inside the empeg, and probably connected to the original tuner of the mkI).
Could someone from empeg say something about this? Hugo?

No, it wouldn't work; the serial port is different level-wise, there is no stereo decoding on the tuner module itself, etc.

In theory, given enough patience, you could make a board and feed a mk2 tuner into a mk1. The mk1 software expects an internal tuner though.

If you want a mk2 tuner, you really need a mk2. It's not viable in terms of time/effort to upgrade the mk1's tuner circuitry.
