Okay, since I first got going on the home docking station project, the value of US currency has dropped significantly, to the point now where I believe my accountant would claim I'm losing significant sums on these.

So.. I am now (today) repricing the docks in my home currency (CAD$), at a value closer to (but not quite) the original US$ pricing from last February.

This will simplify things for my accountant (no currency calculations to bill me for), as well as for overseas purchasers (who already had to do conversions anyway). But the downside is that USA folks may have to figure out how to do currency conversion in PayPal. It's easy, but somewhat obscured -- I managed it (after a struggle or three!), so it can't be that hard to do!

CAD$190 -- Cool, with fan
CAD$220 -- Works, with fan and serial port.

CAD$15 -- AC Adaptor, original compact RioCar 100-120VAC, 12VDC@1A

Worldwide shipping rates in CAD$, including packaging costs:

CAD$17 -- Shipping to USA (14 days), per dock. corrected
CAD$25 -- Express mail (3-5 days) to USA, per dock.
CAD$37 -- Overseas airmail (7-14 days) for one dock.
CAD$66 -- Express mail (3 days) to U.K.,for up to two docks.

The "Basic" dock is no longer offered (no demand).

If paying with a credit-card in Paypal, they want a 3% cut, so an extra 3% needs to be added on. There's no add-on when paying from a bank account in Paypal or from a Paypal account balance. Just credit-cards.

So, for new dock shipments, I will be asking for payment in CAD$ via Paypal. A copy of this posting will be sent to you when your dock is being built. Speaking of which..

SWMBO (aka. SWSNBN) is busy right now with the wiring for 20 docks that should ship out by early next week -- if you are currently one of the top 20 in the shipping queue, you should prime your paypal account now!

EDIT: corrected USA shipping amount -- and to think I was once actually considered good at math.. ha!

Thanks

Cool, I'd never thought of that possible expansion before! But no, it's that obedience thing instead. Let your imagination run (very) wild on that one.

You should be careful saying things like that here. We all know that you have a nice collection of rope.

I was wondering what was going to come around

I think I probably deserved it...

Now, if I can just manage to hack into Tony's home machine and replace his "you've got mail" wav with Seasons in the Sun !

Anyone involved with a scouting program would know that it is a knot used to reduce the length of a rope without cutting it. Good to know, especially if you do not want to cut the rope and "run short" later.

Given the reason the sheepshank came into the conversation in the first place, I find some sections of that animation to be a little... disturbing.

For some reason I've always felt that my Scouting experience made me a part of an overwhelming minority, althought there's no support for that. My introduction to the sheepshank was through Scouts and the incredibly cheesy Follow Me Boys.

I learned all my knots through the sea cadets and RYA training - although I agree with you, there are way too many people in the world who can't tie a bowline or even a round turn and two half hitches, let alone figure out a sheepshank.

As a kid I thought everyone sailed, but then I did grow up thinking it was normal to sail to see some of my friends on other islands.

Largest youth organisation in the World. Transcends both politics and religion, and represented in every country bar 5.

Yeah, on a national level, some Scouting organisations do get bogged down with stuff they shouldn't be involved in. The BSA is particularly bad at this, and also by remaining silent when they shouldn't - I was horrified during the last Presidential Election to see Scouts in uniform on a dais behind Dubya. This wasn't a scouting event where Dubya was effectively saying 'I believe in Scouting' but a political event where effectively, the Scouts were saying 'I believe in Dubya'. That the BSA never kicked up a storm about *that* is astounding. These weren't just adult (voting) leaders in uniform (that would have been bad enough), but kids who don't vote, probably didn't have much choice in the matter, and who were manipulated for political gain.

Scouting is supposed to encourage kids to gain religious and political beliefs, without dictating what those are. (Caveat - Some Scout Troops may choose to have a religious affiliation, and it is accepted that by joining such a troop that you will be exposed to and expected to follow that religion.)

I'm sure that there are other national scouting organisations around the World that have similar issues to that of the BSA, probably not by choice though. For example, I would guess that religious and political freedom were not really attained within the Iraqi scouting organisations.

But generally, as an International Movement, Scouting does indeed transcend both politics and religion.

BTW, in case anyone was interested; People's Republic of China, Laos, Myanmar, North Korea, Cuba were the 5 countries. It appears that since I heard that figure ( ~1998) , 2 more have joined the list; Andorra and Afghanistan.
