I have the latest Emplode beta installed. Several of the visualalizations appear different than they did in 1.0. I actually like some of the old ones better (for example, i prefer the old Marqueses visual to the new one). Is there a way to import these or mix and match between the old and the new ones? Just curious. Thanks.

I don't think so. Most of the visuals code is in a file called visuals.bin in the /empeg/lib/visuals directory. The other files are mostly data files for the Flancedoor visual (different types of dances.) You can mix and match those... But as for specific visuals, I don't think there's any way to break apart the visuals.bin file for the purposes of picking different versions of the visuals. It may be possible to use a visuals.bin from one version on an empeg running a different version, but I haven't tried it.

I've got a vague memory of them being different too, but then it was a while ago that i upgraded from 1.0 to 2.X. I remember some of them had more swirly bits on them if that makes any sense!

Don't have a clue how to get the old ones back though - sorry.

I timmidly agree that I like the 1.03 versions of the upgraded visuals (though the 2.x new visuals ROCK). If there is a way to hack them around, that would be so so cool.

I have not found a way either. One thing that I thought might be cool (for the next software version.. wish wish) would be to treat the visuals similar to the way that we do with boot logos. Find a place online to store them, and make them downloadable to the player. That way you can have only the ones you want installed.. the old ones and/or the new ones.

In reply to:

old Marqueses

I'm not sure how many people know about this feature, but i'm pretty sure if you hit select mode on your remote control, while looking at the visuals in full screen (info: off) it will change most of the visuals display mode.

For example, on the Marqueses it will remove the trails from the visual, leaving the old Marqueses. Funnelweb will change the shape its drawing, and floordance will display a different room of people dancing. I'm not exactly sure what other visuals are affected, but i'm pretty sure almost every visual we've had is viewable with some presses on select mode.

or maybe i'm just wrong

Not related, but you may want to intstall 2.00final (non-beta) unless you use the tuner a lot.

.... are you serious? That rocks!

Now, can't we map that button TO the empeg front panel buttons? THAT would rock even more. I still don't use my remote while driving (read: don't use my remote ever) but would love that functionalty.

The more flexibility the better!

Yea, very serious. The only thing I’m not positive about is the actual button. I'm almost positive its 'Select Mode' but I haven't really used my empeg in 4 months, waiting for spring time to come around to put my car back on the road, never really got motivated for installing a stereo in my winter rat.

Either way, the feature is there, it just may not be the select mode button that does it.

Also, Hijack should be able to remap that button, I’m almost positive that it see every button on the remote and front panel, it has a hex value you could map it to, it would be pretty simple to add it to the popup0 window on knob press. It also might be something mark could include as a standard option in the popup0 box.

Thanks for the tip. I've got my work cut out for me in configuring HiJack. Now, if only this Select Mode could toggle the original FunnelWeb logic and turn off the interconnections between the rings. Two FunnelWebs; each for different occasions.

Yeah I think Funnelweb needs to be refined a little. About 50% of the time it looks pretty cool, but then there are other times where it just looks like crap or sometimes part of it is off of the screen (or completely off the screen).

Yep - works fine. I always have SelectMode as one of my popup items so I can quickly bump a visual which isn't working with the current track. The mode it picks then seems to be random, ie you can't click it on Marquesas with trails and always remove trails - just try a couple of times until you get a mode you like.

Say, would it be possible to utilize the "Select Mode" feature of the visuals to change different "ImagePan" images????

I don't know, but you can upload new ones. Maybe some kinda HiJack hack can enable swapping the pan in realtime. Now THAT would be fun.
