Following on from the CES thread, I'm sticking a stake in the ground and picking tuesday the 10th... so we just need to pick somewhere to eat.

I'm really tempted by O'mei in Santa Cruz (great chinese-style food, which has a proper name that I can't remember) - is that too far away for people?

...and is tuesday night ok?

Works for me. I Think I'm going to macworld that day, but a drive down to santa cruz afterwards wouldn't be a problem. In the past santa cruz has been too far for some people. How is everyone feeling these days?

What the hey, I'll motor over the hill for a meet.
I'll be coming from Livermore, so I'll be late arriving.

Macworld? Cool, make sure you get lots of pictures of (or attempt to steal) one of those rumored new laptops

Can you define late? I was thinking of maybe 8pm or something - they shut at 9 on weekdays (what is it with restaurants in the US? 10pm is still a perfectly acceptable time to eat... unless you have to get up at 5am to miss the traffic I suppose)

I don't have a car now, but I'd really like to try and make it. If I can somehow have a car by Tuesday, I'll be there.

Not sure if I can make it down to Santa Cruz... bit far and I have to take someone to the airport sometime that evening. I'll probably be able to make it if it's somewhere closer to SF. Don't change locales if I'm the only one though!

PS - Going up to Sugarbowl tomorrow in Tahoe... so I'll be incommunicato. Hugo... up for some slopes?

Oh wow, I didn't notice that we were talking about Santa Cruz either. That's a haul from SF... I thought we were getting together b/c people were in town for Macworld...

Unfortunately, I already have several things going on that night.

On the other hand, it looks as good as any other night this week, and I haven't had an opportunity to meet Hugo before.

So, maybe I'll blow some of that other stuff off.
I'll just have to play it by ear.

If Santa Cruz is going to be a bit far, anyone want to suggest anything more local? I also have a huge-ass rental car if anyone is car-less and generally in the bay area - don't mind giving you a lift ricin if you want one?

edit: Just looked in your profile and found that Fairfield is about 85 miles away... might not be able to make that round-trip

Local as in "in San Francisco"?

Here's a recommendation for dinner:

Anywhere works for me. I might see if I can bum a ride off someone at some point, as I'm on my way to SF and left my car in santa clara. (3g data rocks my world. So does my samsung a900. 25 kilobytes per seccond on the train.)

If we aim for in the city, I'd reccomend a dine-about-town special (http://www.opentable.com/promo.aspx?pid=67&m=4) as they're a great deal for some really nice restaraunts.

Macworld Update as of 9:38: Apple sells a lot of ipods and songs. iLife 2006 will be better than iLife 2005. "Photocasting".

I appreciate the offer. As you said, though, I'm probably too far off for anyone to give me a ride. That's OK, I need to concentrate on getting a car, anyway.

Chow is a good spot, impossible to park though. but there is PARK Chow, which is the same restaurant's other location, at 9th and Irving. Good American Comfort food. I eat there often.

Doh! This is what I get for missing those email updates (I've been swamped since I got back from holiday) I won't be able to make it TODAY... I already made plans that I can't bail on. I'd probably be too ashamed to show up without my memory & LED mod's installed (now that I got it all). So, count me in for nextime or if the date gets pushed back... Have Fun guys! (and gals who are dragged along ;-)

Everyone else up for park chow? I'm ok with it (I'm sure I'll find somewhere to park!)

I guess the traffic might make getting there quite long-winded... Zandr, if you're reading this and in San Jose, want to share a car?

Sure, what time? 8 still?

Is there anyone heading back down the valley that can give me a ride to Santa Clara? I can always take caltrain, but I'll have to cut out in time to catch the 10 o'clock train.

Hugo-
Sure, I can meet you here (101 and De La Cruz) or there (Cupertino, right?)
More than one body in the car would be good.

PARKING TIP!!! Park in the Park (Golden Gate Park) which is just on the other side of Lincoln. Park chow is on 9th between Irving and Lincoln. If you are heading West on Lincoln, take a right into the park at 9th and you'll find parking at the first right turn or just a few hundred yards in. Free too! Traffic shouldn't be bad at that time, you might want to take 280 to 19th, then take a right on Lincoln.

Oh, and how many are coming total? There's usually a short wait, and if we all can get there on time I can put us on the list by calling ahead.

Weird... last time I called they didn't take reservations... that was 3 days ago. They usually just allow you to put your name on the list before you head over there. How'd you pull that?

They take formal reservations if 10 or more. I spoke to the guy that answered and said that we may have slightly less than 10, but he agreed to gimme a reservation anyways... I requested a table in the back - I think the front gets drafty, and I've been kinda sick lately...

Hope that's cool!
