Howdy all. My father recently purchased a new device which really has caught my attention. Ricochet, Inc. is now selling a 150k down/75k up wireless Internet service in the US. Several days ago I tried using my father's device to listen to a 128kbit MP3 stream from Digitally Imported, and it worked beautifully. This device is supposedly capable of maintaining its full datarate up to a speed of 60 miles per hour. The present hardware is offered either in PCMCIA or USB form. Has anybody made any attempts to build up an Internet Streaming decoder or write drivers for a USB 'net connection? This could be really cool! If any of you have heard anybody talking about this sort of functionality on the EMPEG, please let me know.

Regards,

Adam Blomberg

Problem is that in Serial mode, the ricochet only fucntions around 7-8k/sec.. (lots of overhead...) - the usb on empeg is one-way - you can't hook up an external device to it..

...proud to have owned an Empeg since 00287

The main problem with Ricochet is that they may not be in business by the end of the summer. They announce earmings tomorrow, after which there will either be a route in their stock, or they may be doing well. The stock has edged up noticably today (by 30%) which could indicative of insider trading. Hard to say.

I work with a guy from Metricom who worked on ricochet. I think he still keeps in touch with some of those guys, I'll have to ask him what the deal is.

I work in line of site of Richochet and they have a pretty large building!

That doesn't mean much, but they don't look like a small company that can be demolished by a few bad earnings quarter in a period where everyone has bad earnings.

Large buildings are usually leased. Here are their latest financials. Draw your own conclusions.
