The latest and greatest version 1.2 is now available in the usual place.

Check out the creamy goodness I've cooked up this time:
  • Upload.exe now reboots the player for you to begin the upload. No more yanking the power cord!

  • Undo!

  • Text Tool!

  • Imports many different file formats now! Supported files include BMP, GIF, and JPG. (Although the export is still BMP-only, sorry Drakino.)

  • Example logos included!

  • And the proverbial "much, much more"!
What are you waiting for? Go get it now! You know you want it so bad!

Killer!

<nag>
Now we need the ability to move the text after it's been put down, and maybe select and move other things as well. That's probably the number one reason I have to switch back to another graphics program. I know you didn't want to get too fancy with features because there are lots of other programs with far better features that people could use, but that's just one of the ones that's annoying.

No problem. The new backend is working rather well now with all the BMP's from your program. Well as far as I can tell anyhow, since one logo has been uploaded since the change beyond my tests.

Yeah, yeah, sometime in the next century, perhaps...

Actually, I've been thinking about how I could go about it, but it's not trivial. Re-inventing the Photoshop wheel isn't easy.

In the meantime, you can use the Undo feature in conjunction with the text placement feature to get it right where you like it: Click, Enter, Ctrl-Z, scooch mouse, click, Enter, Ctrl-Z etc. Yes, it's annoying. Like I said in the Readme... "Go play with Photoshop and leave me alone. :-)"

Been making a ton of logos, mostly hunting computer for icons, but everything is working fine until.
I don't know yet if it's LogoEditor 1.2 or not still trying things, but my desktop icons are starting to change to different icons than what they were. The thing that makes me wonder about what's causing it is some of the icons seem to be changing to icons I've imported into LogoEditor 1.2. I have desktop icons changing from text symbols to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 icon, as well as my html icons. The change seems to be random one time the same icon will show as a rose picture sometimes as Tony Hawks Skater. I just opened LogoEditor then closed and now they are back to normal. I have noticed that while LogoEditor is open sometimes the desktop flickers and does a complete refresh from scratch.
It's nothing alarming but gif and jpg icons change to roses icons.

I've had that problem before too. Not using the Logo Editor or any specific program that I could tell, but I had alot of icons change to the notepad icon and other things like that. I'm sorry, but I can't tell you a solution. I think I just turned the computer on one day and it stopped.

See if you can make anything stick in the desktop icon selector.

And that's another thing. Which items are changing? Is it the "My Computer", "Recycle Bin", and "Network Neighborhood" icons or shortcuts and things like that?

Mostly shortcuts, mainly html;text;notepad and gif/jpg icons. It's not doing it now and I've been using LogoEditor for awhile. I haven't noticed the Win 98 system icons changing at all. Probably another goofy MS bug.
Oh well they do change back later.

I'm reasonably sure that this is a Microsoft bug that's unrelated to the Logo Editor.

I think it's related to the desktop extensions of Win98 and (back in the old days) the IE4 upgrade for Win95.

Here's what I've seen happen: At some point in time, you install a new program that adds a new file "type" to the system registry. This "type" has an associated icon, and various right-click shell extensions. These settings all go into the registry for hkey_classes_root.

I've seen these kinds of alterations sometimes cause certain desktop icons to become de-synchronized with their actual file types. I don't know if it's because they added themselves to the registry wrong, or if it's because Windows doesn't do the right thing, or if it's the video driver, or what.

All I know is that it's been happening in Windows versions (on many different computers) ever since that first goddamn IE4 desktop extensions update. And since they've got that active desktop crap in every OS since then, there's no avoiding the bug any more. Grrr.

If you have ever used the Microsoft Power Toys set (don't they include that somewhere on the Win98 CD now?), the TweakUI program has been known to fix that problem for me. Under "repair" it has a "rebuild desktop icons" command which seems to do the trick for me.

There's also a way to force the desktop icons to be rebuilt manually, but I'm not sure I remember it well enough to recount it here. (I think it involved deleting the shell icon cache file, then going into appearance, increasing the icon size by one pixel, hitting "apply", then putting the icons back to the correct size, forcing the system to rebuild its icon cache?)

Thanks. I liked the way the Les Paul came out, but I keep wanting to update the white Strat, I'm not totally satisfied with it.

Fun for your whole family! Grab version 1.3 here!

New features:

- Fixed the "Read 0 Bytes" error under Windows NT.

- Added "Drag and Drop" functionality. You can now drop any .BIN file, Zimage kernel, or other supported image file onto Logo Editor. If you drop two importable image files, it will put one in the Home slot and one in the Car slot. Also added command-line parameter support, so you can associate ".bin" files with LogoEdit.exe if you want, or create a shortcut to LogoEdit and drop files onto the shortcut.

"Now how much would you pay?"

Errmm... Tony - a silly question (not having enough time to read all posts and not being home currently): Do I need to download a special kernel to the Mk1/2 or does the logo Editor's download work with the standard 1.0 (1.01) kernel?

I was trying to download logoedit and the jps.net domain seems to be redirecting to start.earthlink.net. What the heck is going on? Any alternate locations for logoedit?

My ISP bent me over and reamed me. Earthlink bought my ISP and then scrambled my web site name as part of the change-over. Oh, and they increased the price and reduced the amount of space allowed for my web site, too.

I will probably be at a different ISP by the end of next week. And connnected with a fat pipe, too, miracle of miracles.

In the meantime, find me at http://home.jps.net/~tfabris.

BOYCOTT EARTHLINK!

Sounds good. Earthlink does suck. I have their DSL service and it was a nightmare trying to get connected... BUT, due to an apparent mixup I'm still at their old rate, not the $10 additional they've added to everyone else's bill. So I'm staying with them until they figure it out. Let's hear it for red tape and inept management!!!
