My 30GB unit arrived today. When I took it out of the box I noticed that one of the tabs on the top plate wasn't seated underneath the main chassis - it was resting on top instead, and causing undue friction between the player and the sled.
The facia appeared to be a bit loose on the left side too.

For a while, I'm cursing the inspection team, and considering returning the unit for a replacement but just can't be bothered to deal with the delays, and being a practical person in nature, returning the unit over something that trivial wouldn't be me.

So I hunt down a screwdriver and allen key and go to work on the unit. I figured that I was going to open the unit at some point to drool anyway - I just wasn't expecting it to be the first day.

Easily enough I take the facia and top plate off. Not a lot to be seen really, it's all hidden by the 2 drives. Never mind, I put the plate back on, put the front back on and tighten the hex screws. Job done.

I then spent the rest of the day upgrading the kernel, downloading the latest Emplode and installing a load of music on it. It rocks!

Hang on a sec.....2 drives????? I thought that the 30GB unit only had one drive. Well, the box label says 30GB, the serial number on the box matched that on the unit, but sure enough, it's a 60 Gigger!

And the REALLY nice thing to do would be to mail it to me. hehe

This actually happened to a fair number of people in the recent sales. I didn't hear of a single person getting a player that was of smaller capacity than they paid for.

Yeah, it'd end up like the game "Pass the Parcel" at kids parties. Whoever had it trying not to pass it on whilst desperately hoping that everyone else forgets about it completely...

it would be like when I got dsl. The company I used gave the modem for free and they were supposed to send it in the mail before the install guy came. Well of course they didn't so the installer used one he had then later I got one in the mail. Well I called them to return it and I was told I was supposed to pay for the shipping so now I have two (neither of which is in use now I have cable instead)

Just noticed your sig...

My Empeg's going in a Mk IV Golf too...I'm going to be using the stock HU with it as I can't justify any additional costs.

Have you any idea where I can find the wiring connector to fit the stock HU? I've managed to locate the adapter that fits the wiring harness, I just need the other end that fits into the HU. It's virtually identical to the Empeg ISO connector..

Autoleads in the UK do one. Cambridge Car Audio fitted my Empeg so they would know. My standard head unit acts as a Source and is plugged through the Aux on the Empeg, which I think is what you would like to do.

www.cambscaraudio.co.uk and email them from there. They are very helpful. They have an internet sales outlet www.incarexpress.co.uk and are active on forum uk.rec.audio.car.
