I posted the following to the Technical/Troubleshooting section here a few days ago, but never got a response. I'm hoping that's because no one saw it, not because everyone was stumped. In an effort to get it seen again, I'm reposting here.

-----------

Hi,

Somehow, I don't know exactly how, I managed to screw my player up in such a way the the visuals auto change every fifteen seconds, and can not be turned off no matter what. It sounds remarkably similar to a bug that's come up a few times here. The bug was reported fixed in one of the 2.0 releases, and I'm running 2.0 final, so you'd think it wouldn't apply, yet I have it.

In this thread, there's made mention of a special nukeflash hijack that might fix this. Problem is, the link's gone 404.

I suspect I've got some bit borked in flash, maybe from a previous release, that's now screwing things up on my machine. Does anyone know where I can get this nukeflash hijack to try and see if that fixes it? Barring that, is there another way to nuke the flash (like writing something to one of hijack's magic /proc entries?). Or, is there anything else I can do that might solve this problem?

I'm extremely thankful in advance for any help anyone might provide.

Ooo there's something you can run the player with, maybe "-i" (ie /empeg/bin/player -i) which ignores any saved settings. Try that?

Thanks Hugo. I won't be able to try this until later today, but a quick question in the meantime: When the player's running in this mode, will it save settings? Or is it basically just cutting out the flash entirely? I guess I'm thinking that if it doesn't read settings, but does save them, I'll be able to just turn auto change off, have it save that settting, and then run the player normally, right?

This worked perfectly! The player started up without a current playlist, and then when I rebooted the machine, it was basically a blank canvas. All the flash settings seemed to be reset. I had to reset my time zone and stuff, but more importantly, the visuals behave normally now.

I just searched the forums for "player -i", and the hits I found were mostly having to do with getting the player to start up with a blank playlist. I think it's important to emphasize that it's so much more than that. Since it's basically ignoring (and resetting) all flash settings, it's probably very useful for other situations as well.

Thanks so much, Hugo!
