Here's what happened:

This morning I took my empeg out for a ride, and I noticed the sound wasn't like it used to be. I tried adjusting the sound settings in the car and to my surprise the fader option wasn't there! The empeg thinks she's on my desk, no dimmer option available too.

I know mardibloke and yn0t_ have had this problem too, so if your outthere, please tell me how you fixed this problem.

Sounds like a faulty power socket. There's a contact inside which is displaced when you insert the home power jack, but in some cases it has jammed open so the player always thinks it's on home power. The number of cases of this isn't very high - I think about four players so far, although it's frustrating for all concerned.

We'll service your player and replace the faulty jack. Expect an email from [email protected] in the morning.

One question (for everyone that has been affected by this) - do you use the supplied AC adapter exclusively, or have you used a third party adapter? If the latter, was the diameter of the plug exactly the same as that on the official part?

Nope, just the supplied adapter.

By the way, I noticed some noise from the inside of empeg, like something has come loose.

Rob, I was one of the first to report this, and I was using the Empeg adapter exclusively. Though this shouldn't matter.

Just theoretically - would it maybe be possible to "unjam" the contact with a small screwdriver (when you act carefully)?
This could maybe be the fastest way to self-service the empeg. Or will the contact get stuck again the next time you plug in the powersupply. Or could it break?

This was the solution that Hugo had suggested to me. That, and heating up the negative contact (not the centre pin, but the little metal flange on the inside bottom of the adapter plug) for 10 seconds to burn away any dust that might have gotten in there (???) I haven't tried that one yet because I haven't located a soldering iron small enough to squeeze in there. I am going to give that a shot before I ship my Empeg out within the next week or two. I'll let you guys know if some miracle happens, otherwise, I'll be sending it out for service.
