I'm loving my empeg. I've had it now since December. I've followed the Empeg's progress since early in 2000. I'm just a little dissapointed that the voice recognition and the tuner have been delayed soooo long. They were promoted in the marketing of the player to get you to buy it and they have taken a back seat to production of the player. A far behind back seat. I have watched the months go by and the proposed release dates go by and nothing. At least is seems that the tuner may be a reality but the voice recognition does not seem to me like it has a chance of being released even in 2001 if ever. Hopefully, now that RIO is in charge of marketing and production, the empeg team can get back to the developement of the player and get the voice recognition going so that the months don't continue to drift by with no voice recognition. Let's hope so.

The voice recognition is developed out of house - I have it as a post-1.1 priority to chase the companies involved and get VR into alpha testing as quickly as possible.

Is an overheat-sensor a feature anymore? Is it even needed? I heard it was in the MK.1 players but removed because of issues?

All players have a temperature sensor - I seem to recall that you can check the temperature from DisplayServer. We haven't made much use of it as yet, but we have the option of doing so in the future.
