When these are available I see them sold for $50-$75. About a month ago I seen one sold on ebay for $75. If I end up needing one down the road then I'm sure I will have to pay ATLEAST $50.

You might be ok with using the cheaper $20 kenwood remote though.

Lesse... In January '02 durring the closeout sale I bought a remote from sonicblue.

Code:

Product Name Qty Ordered Qty Shipped Unit Price Amount
---------------------------------------------------------------
Rio Car Remote 1 0 $ 29.95 $ 29.95
---------------------------------------------------------------
Sub Total: $ 29.95
Tax: $ 2.47
Shipping: $ 3.95
Total: $ 36.37

So I paid close to $40 three years ago. That remote is still in it's plastic bag, sitting in a drawer. I've moved twice since then, and moved it each time. I have two others, so it's of no immediate use to me.

Why did I spend $40 three years ago? Because I didn't want to spend $60 now. If I had left that on my credit card for the three years, that'd come out to just around $60. Anyone who's selling their remote has either lost an empeg, or planned ahead three years ago.

Anyways, anyone is welcome to use any remote they want with their empeg thanks to Mark Lord's hijack, so anyone not wanting to pay todays prices doesn't have to.

$60.00???? And everyone thought I was insane when I wanted to swap a remote for an Empeg Carrying Bag (I still will!)...oh wait...I remember, some bright person offered toast or something...heh heh heh...sorry...couldn't resist!
Are these things worth $60.00...I mean if you have a palm and can borrow a remote, you can program it the same....hmmm.

OOooohh.. I'd love a Palm app that simply acts as a remote.

But I don't think that is possible for a stock player, as the IR frequency is different ("consumer IR" for the remote, "IRDA" for the Palm). While the empeg has hardware for both IR standards, it would require extra s/w on the player to receive/use IRDA. I'd still like it, though.. or does Palantir already do this nicely?

Cheers

Yeah, but the software for that costs at least 60 plus the cost of the Palm. $60 is steep, but like the said, they've gone for more than that. The Rio remote is the only remote made specifically for the empeg and there is a finite supply.

That being said, I don't use my remote that much.

Naaah, dirt cheap, actually - prices have been varying between $75 and $210 (yes, honest!) since they disappeared.

Not made any more = extremely rare = pricey if you really want one.

It's a deal, it's a steal, it's the Sale of the Effin Century (to quote)

I thought the IRDA button codes were dropped into a /proc directory somewhere?

iirc it just reflects them back to the serial port fd the player software opens.

OmniRemote does this for you for $24.95 US. They basically control the IrDA port with hardware registers and the system clock as a timer to simulate consumer IR. I thought about doing this for my Palm, but the code has to be written for every hardware platform you wish to support.

I could make Empire/Palantir send remote codes, but the delay is slow with IrDA discover/etc. It would probably be just better to reverse engineer what OmniRemote does.

I set up the OmniRemote (bought it some time ago for a different reason) and it worked pretty well. Then I found my remotes again, and all is well in LadmoLand. I guess I did something wrong if it is not suppose to work. I was using it on a Sony Clie with the Palm OS...
