For the benefit of non-UK readers, there is a consultation going on as to whether the UK needs identity (sorry "entitlement") cards. An article in The Register reminded me I hadn't sent off my reply yet.

They have been fairly quiet about publicising it and the 13Mb PDF download might be a little off-putting to people wanting to read the arguments :-(

Until 10th Jan there were 1500 responses, of which they say people were 2:1 in favour.

www.stand.org.uk put up an helpful feedback submitter and Privacy International has a phone > email converter (which is ok, according to gov.uk) so if anyone in the UK hasn't sent their thoughts and wants to, then click a link above and have a go!

The stand website has sent 2513 up to now, so that should tip the balance a little!

Ditto - good call. Admittedly I've already bent the ear of my MP anyway but I had not come across this site.

The BBC has picked up on the story and the total on stand.org.uk is now over 3200! Assuming no more "for" responses are received that will turn the 2:1 "for" to an 8:1 *against*!

Let's see 'em talk their way out of that!
