My firefox decided it needed to update one of it's extensions the other day, and since it did, I can't start it. When I try and fire it up, I get a "firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error box.

Is it possible to uninstall or otherwise disable extensions without having firefox running?

EDIT: Hmm, I've managed to get it fired up by removing the following directory

c:\program files\firefox\chrome\overlayinfo

Not sure what that directory does, but removing it doesn't seem to have had any adverse effects

Firefox has a safe mode option.
