The mains adapter provided for my new alarm clock did not adapt too well to life in the UK. Can someone link me to a mains adapter that will replace this, preferably available in the UK?. Thanks!

The input must be AC 230 - 50 Hz. The output must be AC 10.5V. Loaded must read AC 9V - 1000mA. Important: Adapter must be AC not DC or it may affect or damage the clock

It's for this alarm clock BTW (http://www.globalassistive.com/vblarm.html)

They seem to have quite a selection at Farnell (from a search on '9v ac'), one of those should do it. I would wait for a second opinion on how the rated values might affect your selection.

9V 1amp bricks, which I think is what they are telling you, are widely available, Farnell, sure, but you can probably get one at Maplins also, or probably Dixons/Comet.
This reminds me of when my brother in law's father expressed a desire to wake up with a nice cup of tea in tennessee, so my parents sent him a Goblin teasmade, unfortunately, at 60 not 50 cycles, it woke him up in the early hours! In the 60's only Harrods could provide a bush to change the clock to work in the US: Apparently, buying a teasmade, tax free, was a regular thing for Americans who had got used to starting the day with a cup of builders!
Sorry AC oulput, not DC, I just re-read, I can't find one of those - still looking!

Thanks for the replies. So a 9V adapter will work? Something like this?

Ah DC, no that's not it either

Regarding your phrasing boxer, I googled for goblin teasmade (check - Mr. Coffee for Tea), cup of builders (check - cockney for strong tea), but what's a bush? (insert obThreadJack now)

No, that's the problem, yours is asking for an AC output, not a DC - I've never encountered that.
A bush is, if you like a collar, fitted over the original shaft, which, in this case, changes the RPM output.
for only £47.96 on Amazon, you can wake up with a nice cup of tea and pass one over to the wife, who needs subliminal!

- of course, the key point here is that tea tastes better the nearer you are to sea level, which prompts the question: why did they throw it in to Boston harbour, when it was at near to perfect?

Profuse apologies for not remembering your wife's name, having met the two of you two years running.
The only solution I can come up with is to use your original PSU with a step down transformer: Maplins order code VR03D, but at 30quid, it's hardly cost effective. I'd want a 2nd opinion, but if you're handy with a soldering iron, a chassis transformer, order code NO6CF, would probably do the job with a 1amp fuse, my electronics are a little rusty.

Here's one on eBay that looks ok too. You can get it on BIN for €8 or take your chances bidding.

I went all down that list and missed that one, sorry!
Which only raises the two questions: Apart from your alarm clock, what else needs a 9v 1 amp AC psu, and, if the clock is a US marketed product, why is the spec. for 50Hz not 60Hz? I note also that, as far as I can make out, the Farnell one has continental pins, not that an adaptor is a problem: However, the ebay one looks better.
I'm down at Farnells (A local firm, here) if not next week, early the week after: If you want me to get just one as part of my order, I'll be happy to do so.

Thanks for the ebay and farnell link. I'm going to go ahead and grab the ebay one. I've also contacted the original place that I bought it from. They're going to send out another one. So hopefully, I'll have a solution.

Boxer thanks for the kind offer and not to worry on the names. Erin prefers the anonymity.
