RegHardware 500Gb laptop drive

I just got a warm and fuzzy feel for 2008.

I though the consensus was that there might just be enough room to squeeze in IDE-SATA converters ?

I thought that you had to sacrifice one of the disks to squeeze the adapter in? Could be wrong though.

Even so, I can see in the future that you'd be farther ahead in terms of space, by losing a disk to fit in the adapter, than sticking with two disks and no adapter.

If space constraints required you had to lose a disk to fit in the adapter, you may still be able to fit in a CF adapter as the second disk.

Since we're nitpicking according to where I read about it (can't remember) it is taller too because they crammed another platter in there to up the capacity.

12.5mm Vs 9.5mm that smaller capacity drives store.
My grey matter seems to recall that the Mk1 was picky about drive height, but that this was not hte case with the Mk2/2a.

According to the drive upgrade guide:
Quote:
For the empeg Mark 1, the drive must be no taller than 14 millimeters.

For the empeg Mark 2 and the Rio Car, the drive must be no taller than 19.5 millimeters.

Yeah, back then the big drives were seriously big... ISTR we had a 14GB IBM monster that was 19mm....

I remember doing my first drive upgrade and the finding that the 30GB drive I was putting in was nearly half the height of the 10GB one I was taking out!
